  1. Hey,

About a year ago I did my first protege contest. I don't know why, but one evening when I was on p5's I just posted that I would take two students. It turned into a pretty big/fun thing and I enjoyed doing it.

I'm doing it again this year, but a few of the details have changed.

I'm picking two students, 1 from a pool of people who sign up to CardRunners as Gold or Silver members from now till Dec. 25th. The other from the pool of CardRunners Gold, Silver, and Registered Guests. Note that you can sign up for CardRunners as a registered guest for free. All you have to do is fill out a registration page and verify your email. I should note that your chances of being picked will be much better if you signup for a Silver or Gold account, because I expect thousands of applications in the second pool of entrants. If you have been thinking about joining CR, now is probably a good time to do so.

If you are interested, please check out the splash page we have at CardRunners. I talked a little more about it in the p5's podcast last week, so you might give that a listen, too. I probably won't be able to respond to all PM's so please don't think I am ignoring you, but I will only accept applications through the email address listed on the promo page.

    Best,
    tc

  2. Great promotion...looking forward to the chance of grabbing one of those spots! Do you guarantee one of your students will win the PCA?
  3. Choose BillMueller aka L0bstaM0bsta aka Movetime99! He rocks!
  4. nice i will be signing up in cardrunners asap
  5. GP, how long do u anticipate it taking to make a decision? Thanks.

  8. Nice promotion for CR and gl to all that enter.

I just feel it's a little unfair for all current members who are being lumped together with joe public.
  9. i would love to get picked for this, but as stated its a far better chance if you are silver or higher, and i cannot even afford to do that.
  10. WP Ship!! lol

  11. Love to see you pick someone who didnt have the skillset that Ryan did before he won.. Pick a complete donkey who sucks and see if you can mold him into a good player. Like AFink93 for instance.
  12. how are last years protege doing now? any of them killing the cash game or tourneys?
  13. Daut won the PCA for over 1mil and has been successful in highish cash games and really throughout the limits since.

I don't know anything about the other protege, Brian Rue, but according to CardRunners' website he's done well for himself in mid-stakes cash games.
  14. Seems more like a way to just get a few hundred more people to join card-runners... well played GP
  15. Holds Hand up.

  16. raises hand

  17. I'm pretty sure legally you can't require sign ups to enter your contest.

  18. He is right though....
  19. Nice cardrunners advirtesment.
  20. Don't pick a donk and waste your time...not anyone can be a successful player. Personality traits and habits should be analyzed before investing time in a player who constantly loses because they are not capable of analyzing their own mistakes and correcting their flaws.
  21. in it to win it, and become a better protege than daut, no easy task, but why do it if its easy. good luck all.
  22. Id just like to vote for myself again. That is all.

  23. I was wondering this too, since basically he'd be running a lottery/raffle (he is "giving" away something of value, but requiring money to have a chance). I would guess legally he'd have to "hire" the winning applicant and pay him/her something or not require sign up and pick a name out of a hat.

    lawyers?
  24. I am all over this... I'll be consulting my legal advisors immediately.
  25. lol he is offering to mentor 2 lucky players while also promoting his site and you guys are talking about legal stuff, people always want shit for free. GL to everyone who gives it a shot.
  26. First off you're being naive if you think this isn't a promotion first, and secondly, he's potentially exposing himself to legal problems. Either way I think it's fair to comment on it.

  27. Glad to see you're such a nice guy trying to help the guys at cardrunners out like this. I'm sure they'd probably hire you as a consultant if you called them. GL
  28. I believe you are eligible if you sign up for the free membership level. Does that answer the legality of the promotion/opportunity?
  29. I wasn't trying to be a dick. I have the utmost respect for GP and was a member of cardrunners for a few months and might join again soon. That being said, he's the head of a company that might be leaving his company exposed. The way that he presented the contest in the original post is probably illegal. Being the head of the company, he might want to know that, since most people would assume it's perfectly legal. What's hard to understand about this...
  30. no, because if it's a contest, then everyone should have an equal shot. he states that if you sign for a silver or gold account, your chances are increased.

again, not trying to be a dick.

(I have a feeling my chances at being picked just went out the window....)
