I've thought about this hand, and thought about it some more, and I guess I'm satisfied with my play. But bottom line, I busted out of another tournament, and I'm open to any ideas that would help my game. It's killing me that my MTT wins stand at a big fat ZERO! (I do cash, and have a decent in-the-money percentage.)
At the time of this hand, there were approximately 60 players left in a 260 player MTT. I was sitting around 40th, with a slightly below average stack. I'd hoped to limp in and see if I could catch a set. I felt there was a better-than-50/50 chance that Mr. L.A. would call any 2x-3x bet I made if he had even half a hand. I'd taken a big pot (for me, not him) earlier from him when he went over the top of me with A-rag sooted against my KK. BLINDS: 150/300

Either all in on your first bet instead of call, or get away from the 66. From "Zen and the Art of Poker", probe, but when facing resistance back off- unless you are looking for the fight- 66 not strong enough to look for the fight, but an all in by you might discourage an Ax to call, giving you the blinds. Or, Harrington, "flat call with small pairs, but be able to get away from them if facing a big raise behind you or if you see the flop and don't hit your set and there are overcards on the board, be prepared to abandon the small pairs". Patience is hard when you are short stacked, but don't risk all of your chips on a coin toss at best, and 66 has to be a coin toss to an all in. IT WILL COME TOGETHER AND YOU WILL WIN MANY MTTs.

Blinds were 150.300. If you choose to limp (personally I would make a mid size raise like 800 or so, but that is irrelevant) then you have to be willing to muck it. Harrington made a great point in his book, each play is totally independant of the other. So we might as well negate your limping in. The pot has about 1800 in it and its 900 for you to call. Now you have 3500 left. If you decide to reraise all in, it would only be 2300 for your opponent to call in a 4700 chip pot. Given he is getting 2 to 1 to call, there arent many hands he is gonna fold that he would potentially raise with, even Ace x is worth a cal here given his odds. So first think about what you are doing and what situation that leaves your opponent in. So moving in your opponent is gonna call and you are a coin flip. Taking coinflips do happen, but you shouldnt seek them out and playing 6s like this is seeking out a coin flip in a spot where you still have over 10x the BB.
Second, lets look at your other options, fold or call. Call would cost you 900 leaving you with 2400. You would be calling off 1/3 of your chips, not a good play with a mid pair. So I would advise to fold, avoid the coinflip, give yourself still plenty of time to come back, after all you do have 11x the BB and there is still much time to play. -
Thanks guys, good points all and more to think about. I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to reply.
I'm about midway thru Dan Harrington's book. It's terrific and not really what I expected from him having watched him on the tube a fair bit.
