1. Last hand in rebuy tourney, rebuy period. Chip leader has QQ in 2nd position and puts out all of his chips. Is that the right play?
  2. I would do that almost all the time in a rebuy, unless my table was super tight. Especially on the last hand of rebuy period, people are more than willing to put a lot of chips in to try and get lucky. You will often get a caller and have a big lead.

  3. I was said chip leader. In a normal tourney, I don't make that play, of course. But I had double the stack of everyone at the table except the BB, who was a maniac. I figure if anyone has KK or AA and beats me, I'm still okay because I'll rebuy right after and go into the second round with about 4K in chips (I had a little over 5K at the time). The only guy who can really hurt me is the BB, and I just wasn't worried about him. I really thought that because it was the last hand before the rebuy period, I'd get called with A/10 or whatever and would have a nice stack. Turns out BB called me with 66, I doubled up.

I just got busted out of that tourney. Final table I'm in 5th (top five get $200 TEC), and I had to fold 55, AK, and AJ suited preflop because of massive re-raises in front of me. I would have lost in all three hands. Impossible to win a final table in a turbo tourney with blinds that big when you have to fold those hands.
  4. To give the discussion some controversy, or at least another side, I think that in a rebuy, the risk was all on the chip leader, so to make the all in bet was a bit reckless. If I'm in the hand, I'd call with the hopes of doubling up (my 24 would have made a boat) with the risk being $9 for 4,500 chips - more than I had going into the last hand. But, as I folded 24, if I knew the chip leader was going to put his chips up for auction... even with the favorite going in... I might have called. And, if 3 others called, the winner could have turned a small stack into a large one, with the risk being $9. His risk 1/2 his stack without being able to do anything more than add 1,500 chips for $3. So, from that perspective, I think the move could be viewed as risky and unnecessary

  5. See, what you say is exactly why i make the all in move with QQ. Because people are willing to try and take my chips there. I will take the chance of losing my chips if I expect to be at least a 70% favorite.

  6. 2 nights in a row... Monday last hand of the rebuy period I had AA. Two guys had me covered and they went all in in front of me. Both had A=10. Loved it until the last two tens came on the flop. Last night KK and went all in under the gun with the big stack. Got called by J=10 and pocket 4s. Lost to a set of 4s. Still think I made the right play even though I lost a ton of chips in both instances. You gotta do what you gotta do.
  7. Yeah Sophiea, the more you talk, the more I believe my play was correct, although I respect your opinion. You were to my left, so you could have called with 24 if you wanted, which is what I was counting on. The last hand of a rebuy period always brings in a maniac or two.

Did I want three callers? Of course not. But I figured one person would call, and I was very confident I'd have the best hand and likely get some nice momentum going into the 2nd round. Keep in mind it was a turbo tourney, so the only way to win is to get a big pot whenever you have a good hand anyway. I ended up 7th overall because I DIDN'T play the final table aggressive enough.

Every piece of your logic works in any other situation, and believe me, I'm accused of being reckless about once every three months. I'm pretty tight and safe, so I understand what you're saying. But I think the equation adds up: Turbo + Rebuy + I've got 8 others doubled in chips + the only guy with my stack size was a maniac + last hand before period over = Aggressive move but with a few safety nets.

I decided a few weeks ago that in rebuys I was just going all-in preflop with AA-QQ no matter my position. Sure, it fails every now and then, but I think that 9 times out of 10, when you have pocket aces or kings, you want BIG action, and a rebuy is one of the only times you're going to get it.
