Last night I played live with a group of local people I've been meeting up with recently. I had busted most of my stack calling an all in preflop early with AK suited. Anyways, here is the hand is question, I don't think my move was out of play, I am just confused at the other persons play.
QQ pre flop with blinds at 200/400 only 5 left of 10 people. I was big blind, 2 people limped in and I went all in when it came back around to me pre flop. I had 6bb and the guy on my left thought about it for a few seconds and then called and the 2nd person folded. Guy called with A3o - I was mostly shocked that he called as he wasn't chip lead or anything of the sort.
My question is, should I have just waited to see the flop and seen his move? Oh and yes he hit the Ace on the flop. -
Well, to me it's a little more than just meeting up with a few buddies. As there is a point system for the top 3 players after 12 meetups' the top 2 get entered into a local $320 tourney and the 3rd gets a $120 entry or something similar at a casino. I think it was more of the fact I was caught off guard by his call with the hand he had. If I would have checked the blind and went into the flop and seen the Ace I would have probably not been all-in and would have folded unfortunately if he would have bet.
I understand what you are saying though, I just was somewhat bothered by it and sat there for a few minutes after it was over. Thanks graps -
Your play was spot on, a no-brainer.
Jim is not a good player (nice guy though)... limp-calling UTG with A3o is obv really bad, no matter what the circumstances are. There is no good explanation for his play. Like many bad players, he probably doesn't even know why he makes the plays he does. When we were 3 handed, he limp-folded 44 on the button with 5BB to my shove from the SB.
My suggestion is, don't try to figure out why bad players are bad, just try to adjust to their patterns as best as you can and make the best play for the given situation. Oh, and don't get unlucky ;-)
See you next time.

LOL thanks Aaron. I was wondering if you would come across this and chime in. I was just very confused at his play. I just started questioning my play afterwards and wondered if it was the right one. I wasn't why he was a bad player or anything haha
