I purchased a new laptop a couple months ago with a 17 inch screen and a max resolution that is not large enough to support 4 tabling without overlap. I have recently become annoyed with multitabling this way, and I feel like I could significantly improve my hourly rate if I could see all 4 tables at once. party poker beta messes with my PAHUD stats display, and I play on several other sites that don't allow table resizing.
Is there a way I could hookup the laptop to an external monitor that did have a large enough screen resolution to multi-table without overlap? Has anyone else done this, or come up with an alternative solution? If so, are there any suggestions on which monitor to buy? I wouldn't mind having a nice/big external monitor to watch movies on, and I'd rather not have to buy a new desktop just for poker. Comments appreciated.

I have tried this, but my laptop video card only supports 1024x768.... so the external monitor was just like my laptop screen... I could put 2 tables on each screen in virtual desktop mode, but there was still overlap

depends on ur computer and ur graphics card. I have an apple iBook and just recently bought an external monitor for it. It works great, but if ur card doesnt support the higher resolutiong, and another monitor(some cards dont support dual monitors), then ur screwed. Well by screwed I mean ull have to buy a new card ect. find out what ur card is and if ur laptop supports dual monitors.

Back of your laptop is a vga port that can be used to hook up an external monitor. So yeah it can be done. You can use your laptop screen and external monitor at the same time.

do you play on all the sites you have in your bio on your Ibook. Do you have to download some kind of windows program to play on sites like say party, etc. just asking because I play on a ibook g4 and I currently only play at holdempoker.com(pokerroom) because it has java poker
Thanks. (got the ibook from my girlfriend and I'm an apple idiot) -
I think upgrading your videocard might help too. I recently bought an Alienware laptop, 17" with a pretty good graphics card. I can 4 table without any overlap (there's some space inbetween the tables in the middle) and even 6 table comfortably, on the laptop.
It is a 1680 x 1050 resolution though, not entirely sure if your screen supports that or the video card. I have a widescreen monitor, so I'd assume that's a widescreen resolution... but worth looking into upgrading gfx card.
