  1. Playing 1/2 NL at Harrahs, I'm the BB. Entire table calls until it gets to the SB who throws a $5 chip in with her $1 SB chip, doesn't announce anything and doesn't pull back the $1 chip. I'm assuming that is a raise as it is 2 chip and start folding when the dealer tells me it's my option. I tell the dealer that the SB just raised to $6 and he says it's only a call as she doesn't have another $1 chip in her stack. So I say it's 2 chips and she didn't pull back the $1 chip therefor it's a raise. Dealer says that's the rule. Half the table agreed and the other half didn't. What do you guys think?
  2. Should be a raise - maybe ask the sb what their intention was

  3. Intention was clearly a call. But according to rules it should stand as a raise.

  4. it's def a raise by rule, the dealer should enforce it as a raise and warn the player to be more careful next time.

completely contradicted yourself here. player intent (at most places) has a huge influence in the actual ruling, especially in a cash game.

in this situation, this would be a raise. if htey immediately pulled back the $1 chip, it would be a call. i've seen this considered just a call in a ton of places though, cash games are usually move relaxed than tournaments

  6. The dealer is also a floor person part time so he wasn't enforcing the Correct rule.

Dont see how I contradicted myself here. It was a raise by rule, however she was clearly intending to just call. I just wanted it to be ruled correctly as a raise.

  8. Its actually a call, if you throw in 1 chip without an announcement it is always a call, regardless of you having another chip in the pot
  9. Trust me, I was a poker dealer.
This was clearly the dealer's fault. When the woman put the $5 chip in and there was no further action on her part, the dealer should have said, "Raise, to $6." If the woman protested and said she merely meant to call, then the dealer should allow her to take her change and it in fact would just be a call. If the woman said nothing, then it's a raise.

    I thought this but I'm 19 so...
  11. HAHA TRUST YOU!

IT IS JUST A CALL EVERY TIME REGARDLESS OF INTENTIONS.

SHE COULD HAVE PLACED THE $5 CHIP DIRECTLY ON TOP OF THE $1 CHIP AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A CALL.

UNLESS YOU PICK UP THE DOLLAR AND DROP THE $6 AT ONCE IT WILL BE A CALL.

MOST OF THESE RULES HOLD TRUE IN CASH GAMES AS WELL.
  12. It's a call. The key piece of info here is that the villain didnt have a one dollar chip in their stack remaining. Only option was to use a 5. PLus, doesnt the 2 chip rule apply to *putting in 2 more chips* not to *putting in a 2d chip*?

  13. Was told never to trust anybody who says 'trust me'. It's always stood me in good stead.

Agree, without reference to anything else, that it was a call.
  14. They could have 10,000 in $1 chips and 1 $5 chip and if the $5 chips is thrown in without verbal declaration it will be a call.
  15. Not in Toooooooooooonica.

This would be a raise at all the casinos i play at. Which is a grand total of 5.
  16. i've seen this happen several times at several different casinos and it has always been ruled a call. It certainly does look like a raise, but I dunno.
