  1. I have consistently been busting out of tourneys in the 15th-20th percentile (just out of the money). Are there any players who experienced the same difficulties before something just "clicked" and they found themselves cashing more and going deeper?

I find myself in situations where the blinds are 500/1000 125 ante or more and the average stack is sitting with 18-20BB's. I am usually at the average or slightly below average and have one move, all-in obviously. I keep getting my money in as a 3:1 fav or a coinflip and keep busting out. I know I can only get my money in good situations, but is there something else I can be doing to accumulate more chips, so that I won't bust in suckout situations? If so, what levels should I be willing to gamble at? Obv. there is not much post-flop play at the 500/1000 levels and up and my play tightens up as the blinds go up.

I would classify myself as a TAG player and I usually see approximately 20% of the flops, although that number decreases as the blinds escalate.

    Any advice/tips would be appreciated
    thanks,

  2. Im not ur greatest tourney player, but ive felt the same concern about getting over that extra hump to go real deep as well.

Coin flips are a killer, if you think ur flipping, unless you are severely short, dont call of ur chips. Ex pocket 8's, u raise 3x from mp with 11 bb's behind and a dude in lp who just has u covered jams it. Of course situations always depend but i would focus on stealing and taking pots no one seems real interesed in; essentially chippin up. Showdowns with vulnerable hands against stacks that have you covered are probably the most frequent middle-late stage killer, so calling all-ins with hands like weaker pairs or AJ that has limited value since your forced to showdown.

Personal example- Sundays $50 25K. We'd been in the money for about 2 rounds. I pick u 9's utg and raise to 3x with about 13bb's behind and a guy in mp with a similar stack who i know little about jams it; i let it go. Very next hand i pick up 9's in the BB. Utg+1 raises to about 3x, folds to me, and i jam it, having him barely covered. He folds.

Granted i don't know what each player actually held, but this is an example of the benifits of 1) being the aggressor not the caller 2) position [same hand back to back basically played opposite due to position] and 3) trying to chip up while avoiding a showdown

You've prolly heard it before, but its good to think about.
  3. I am far from and expert but I posted a similar question around three weeks ago and got this info. Loosen up your game some, steal more pots that are folded to you so you can chip up for later to make a run. I can say, I was is your position then and since have had 1 win, 2 top fives (not meant to be a brag, just to let u know it helped) and a few more in the top 20. Like I said, I still have a lot of work to do but it has helped soooooooo much.

    Good luck
