If you grind Turbo HU Sngs, What is a good sustainable ROI. My guess is 3-7%. But if your roi is even as good as 7%, aren't the swings like soooooooooo bad? How do you deal with them. Do you think it is worth the low roi for high profits? What are the top players doing that makes them so much money...lib112...dario...etc... What are these players doing that makes them a million dolars yet, its only 5 minute levels?
Heads up sit and go tournaments are a variance monster all to themselves. Your win rate will have a massive effect on your variance in heads up play, and a player who is only winning 55% of his matches will have huge swings, while a really solid heads up player with a 70% win rate can get away with using numbers about twice the size of the regular SNG numbers in the chart above. The 55% player probably can't have a big enough bankroll no matter what he does; the variance is just too high. (Quotes from pocket fives).
So my point is, am i wasting my time trying to get good and then only be able to get up to 5%, which would still take forever to actually make any money due to rake?? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. -
The swings are bad in any form of poker, but HU SNGs have the lowest variance of any poker game available.

I think a good ROI for HU sngs is anywhere between 6%-9% Anything over that and your killing them. Take a look at most of the hu sng regulars graphs on sharkscope and you'll see that steady upward diagonal line. Easily the lowest varience of any type of poker since you only need to beat one person.

im a pretty good HU player and i can say that the streaks can be HORRIBLE.
The reason turbos can be so bad with it is because:
-losing a single decent sized pot early can be devastating. You will be forced to make up ground with marginal cards a lot, before the 50-100 level.
-you cant always have a big stack like in cash games. An early bad beat can ruin the whole game mentally if you are not conditioned to make comebacks.
-you HAVE to play back at opponents, even if you are not getting cards. If someone is betting at every single flop and you miss all of them, you will be ground into the dirt. HU is all about Re steals, and being able to play with marginal hands.
-late game in turbos is a shove fest.

theres a couple of nice dips in my sharkscope graph due to tilt

Thanks for the reply outgunned1, do you agree with jennifear, that Hu sngs, are the lowest variance of any form of poker? Also, I'd like to know if you play the non turbos or the turbos or both. What would you say is your greatest "edge" in HU sngs? Also how do you make money, please correct me if im wrong, but the best players only have a small edge, and the reason they make money is because of the volume they put in.
Thanks alot. -
I play heads up sngs for a living.
My blog is custom tailored for heads up sit n gos. Ive got video tutorials, and I write some pretty in depth articles. You should check it out..
