Do you try to qualify for these events even though it does not affect your bankroll to buyin directly ? How often do you buy in and how often do you try to satelite ? Im at the point in my poker bankroll where I can play the higher buyin events without any harm to it, but I was just wondering how most of you approach this.. Thanks in advance.

I generally don't play sattelites because it is not worth my time given where my bankroll is and the amount of time I have to dedicate to poker. I do like to play the $33 TECs on UB though (think shark tank) because they provide good practice against some of the top UB tournament players. During the morning these generally attract a talented but fun group. From an EV standpoint though you would be better off playing a regular SNG or cash game and using the winnings to buy in, IMO.

My schedule only allows me to play 6 maybe 7 tournaments a night, so I try and maximize my value on those and buy directly in. If I bust out of one early though I have been known to frequently play the turbo satellites as they're usually quite soft and run fast enough to be worthwhile IMO.
