  1. First -- by no means am I a regular player. Slightly winning player, mostly home games and local casinos for recreation.

But doesn't it kind of suck grinding out SNGs with your formulaic (?) play? One of my greatest pleasures in poker is "outplaying" someone, not out-cardding them or out-systeming them. Is poker just a game of numbers for you, and is there any enjoyment from the play itself?
  2. Most sng grinders don't play for fun.
  3. By definition, grinders are trying to grind out profit.
  4. It's a drag, but I do make good money from it.
  5. Im just grinding my bankroll up and trying to make some extra money. I love poker but to me winning money is a lot more fun and since I can do that using a system through sngs I will do it all day.
  6. Can you say FPP"s????????????????????????????????
  7. I play tons of sng's....i don't really even consider them poker
  8. Do you enjoy playing them? Like, in a Freecell kind of way?

  9. My usual routine is I get off work, play 2-3 sets of 4 $16 Turbo's, cash out the $50 profit and quit. Not very fun, but an extra $200 a week helps out. The only enjoyment I get out of poker is when I do good in a big tourney (which I rarely play).
  10. Used to be a grind, but somehow I actually really enjoy it now. I'd say that's because I've shortened my sessions a little bit and I review all my HH's, so I never really have to worry about whether or not I'm running bad or whatever and I can constantly focus on the improvement process in my way to moving up and eventually making a lot of money. Making money isn't much of a grind.
  11. I currently am 16 Tabling the 27s Turbo on stars. I can keep around a 10-12 ROI which is around 50 bucks an hour. I only play around 3 hours a day and use most of the money for spending money for school and what not. If I want to enjoy poker, Ill play in a home game with friends, go to a casino, or just play a 1/2 NL game online. When Im playing SNGs, Im working its not supposed to be fun. Also, saving up my FPP for some cool stuff :)
  12. actually I find grindin SnGs to be fun, especially if you are keeping good track of your results, and always trying to improve your ROI and move up in stakes. I currently am 8 tabling the $27s and I started 3 months ago 10 tabling th $3.40s. Actually theres a few regulars that I see that I always enjoy trying to beat out. I plan on moving up to the $60s soon. And yea.. the FPPs are great. :)
  13. It definately gets broing grinding sngs, but usually i find that if im playing less than 8 at a time,a movie helps me just stay patient and stick the the grinding formulaic wasy.

  14. SNGs can be very fun! There's only so much "systematic" in it. There are definately judgment calls.
  15. i use them to fund my micro tourney donkage, as well as build the roll. don't really play them for fun anymore because they're really not.

entering a 3.40 turbo razz sng, now thats fun
  16. I think for most player poker stops being "fun" not long after they start playing for a living. I've been playing SNG's a lot the past few months, with great results, but I wouldn't say it's a ton of fun. It's still a great job, one that I enjoy, and it's easier and more profitable than a 9-5, but I don't enjoy playing the way some people do. I think a lot of grinders feel the same way, and I definitely feel the same way about cash games. After a while cash game play, even no-limit, feels the same way. If I had $10,000,000 in the bank I might never play poker again.
  17. Fox,

What site have you been playing Sng's lately?

Also, Enjoyed your latest video on RPT, they keep me wanting more!

Could you make some SnG vids since you are playing some lately?
  18. Yeah I'm dieing to see SNG vids anyone know where there are some:( i feel like I'm playing terrible lately although I am not getting my fair share of luck/justice :(
  19. i play all day 5 days a week, i have to mix it up with other games like Omaha, Stud, etc. Otherwise its just brutal.
  20. depends what you are into. my buddy kkush said on his blog, thecooler.blogspot.com, and bel0w has said it, that SnG's aren't really poker. They're a bizarre pokerlike ..thing. But I think it's more like chess. You just make the math correct moves and get paid for it. So depends whether you enjoy the mathy side or reading people.
