Phatcat....thanks for the post. For some reason I couldn't post a reply in your original post.
It took a while but I'm finally thru it all. I am working on a specific flaw in my game and found four hands in particular that apply directly to my problem. If you are willing, please give your thoughts on the following hands (if it's too much to write or you prefer IM or phone, please PM me):
The first two (with hindsight) were bad calls. At the time you obviously thought something that made you call. That "something" is a part that is missing from my thought process. I would have turbo-folded these like a scared little kid. I am NOT being critical, I fold way too often in these spots and would really appreciate hearing your thoughts.
#141 (22) and #252 (AQ)
The next two appear to be pure genius on your part. The A3 I probably would have C-bet the flop and shut down if he called. The way you played it totally stunned me. Likewise, on the 77 hand, I can't imagine betting all three rounds on that board. He couldn't be drawing. He quite possibly has you beat. And yet, you make it OBVIOUS that YOU have the ace. How do you do that? What did you think he had?
#205 (A3) and #210 (77)
Anyway....I was impressed and confused.
Thanks for any help...and thanks again for the post!! -
np, #141 i commented on in this thread:
http://www.pocketfives.com/46C4B109-...72A4E348C.aspx
basically im gettin to be somewhat short, his range could be very wide and i'm willing to take my chances in that spot with that stack a lot.
#252 was based on my image(real and perceived) and my knowledge of the player mman_status. i had and aggressive image here, and based on prior expereince with this very good player i knew he knew that. he will get tired of me raising his blind "too much" and being the good player he is can make that play with a wide range that i figure aq to be ahead of.
#205 basically a positional play. when i check the flop i figure them to bet out on the turn with almost any holding. i also don't figure them to bet out the turn when the 4th spade falls if they have the nuts. by calling the turn i can see what they do on the river and be consistent with having the As myself. with their small bet on the river it looks like a perfect opportunity to cheaply represent a value bet so i make a min reraise which looks like i want a call with the nuts and knowing they prob fold anything but the nuts or maybe second nuts. obv if they reraise i can fold easily.
#210 i'm making value-looking bets that have to make him think i might have the ace. of course he could have an ace too but i would expect a raise at some point if he does. i put him on some mid pocket pair and just thought if i keep repping the Ace hes going to have to fold which he finally did. its one of those situations where u might have the best hand, OR u can make a better hand fold by repping the A. My guess is he did fold a better pair.
fwiw,

Thank you. On the AQ hand your thinking was exactly opposite from what I was thinking. I figured since the guy had been very tolerant of your raises up to that point, he surely had to have something to finally push back (especially since you had him outchipped). But of course I don't know the player.
The 22 hand...that's what I figured...just too short to not gamble.
The A3 hand still freaks me out....I'll study it more.
The 77 hand...I agree...he probably folded the better pair....88, 99 something like that. I also agree that with the ace he's probably going to raise somewhere along the way. But leading with small bets three times wouldn't look like an ace to me.....until the river.....I guess it was the same for him.
Thanks again for taking the time! -
