Last night I went to the casino near my parents house for the first time as I am home for the holidays. The place I normally play runs 1/2 this place runs 1/3, to my surprise this had nearly no noticeable affect on play, raises, ect.
Anyways, I had just won a very large pot with KK. I am UTG and look down and see JJ, I raise it up to 13. One guy in middle position called along with the BB. MP has been flatting a lot of raises and then playing very obviously post flop, BB just sat down this rotation and has not been involved in any hands.
Flop: 10x9x6x I don't remember the suits, but it was rainbow so no flush draw. BB checks, I bet 25, MP folds quickly, BB thinks for about 15-20 seconds and then shoves all in for $106 on top of the $25.
What would you do here? He was a middle aged guy and seemed pretty normal, my instincts told me he had probably played a lot of poker and knew what he was doing, as he seemed pretty confident in his moves. I thought for a while and told him I had an overpair and he said "I hope you call if you have an overpair." When I looked him in the eyes he seemed fairly genuine, but again he just sat down and I had never seen him in my life so it is hard to tell if these types of reads are accurate with no prior info. -
Easy call. You got an ideal flop for JJ. If he hit two pair or set, that's poker. Maybe he has A10, K10, QJ. If you lose, reload.

I had him well covered, my stack was about $750. Regardless, I don't see how you simply declare it an easy call. I understand that the board is 10 high, but you can't simply make calls based on the fact that a board looks good for jacks. I thought it was very likely he would have a hand like 109, seeing as he was big blind or even 78 for the straight. Basically, my thinking was that I did not really see why he would go all in for that much if he only had a hand like A10 or K10. Do you mind expanding on your thoughts, rather than just saying you have to call thats poker?

i mean, the problem here is you have hardly any info...sure, this guy could have 87 or T9 or a set or even AA or something...buttttt he also can have AT, KT, QT, JT, QJ, J8, among many many other hands...you have to play against his entire range. in this spot you crush his range...so it's an easy call

15-20 seconds is my stall range of time before i ship the nuts. so this is an easy snap fold haha

What type of stuff would you look for you to make you more likely to fold? Like how tight would the player have to be for it to be a fold? I decided to fold and he claimed he had 2 pair, but did not show. Another guy I talked to said he had played with him a lot and he believed him. But you can only take for what it is worth.

i woudln't look for anything...he doesn't have a lot of money, you're getting good odds, and you're ahead of his range. there's no point in trying to soul read him and make some big hero fold when you're clearly ahead here often enough to make calling very profitable, especially in a 1/3 game
it's about $100 to win about $200...we're getting 2:1...even if he shows you top 2 pair we have pretty good equity with back door straight draw and a draw to a better 2 pair. our JJ is still about 31% in that situation, and we nearly have the odds to call when he turns his top 2 face up. throw in all the times that he has random 1 pair hands like AT or whatever and it's a hugely profitable spot to be calling...definitely woudln't be looking for any reason to fold here
