One of the most obvious ways to trap an aggressive (overly) player is to check call him down to the river with him betting on every street. My question is what hands should one do this with? For example:
you hold J 9o on a rainbow flop of 2 5 9 (do you check call to the river?)
(what sort of turn card would lead you to bet/fold?)
you hold A 9o on a rainbow flop of 2 5 A (do you check call to the river?)
(what sort of turn card would lead you to bet/fold?)
you hold 10 10 on a board of 4 5 6 (with two hearts) (do you check call to the river?)
(what sort of turn card would lead you to bet/fold?)
Should this move only be done with hands better than one pair, or is it wise to check call with more marginal holdings?
Ty for any help. -
If you think you have the best hand, why would you call an overly aggressive player? Why not raise him?
If he's overly aggressive, your raise isn't going to stop him. I'd rather get more of his chips than just calling him. -
ok, if i know he has air at the time (but his air could be like KQ), and i konw that he will keep betting if he thinks he is in control, and fold to a raise as he knows he is beat/has not got any fold equity (im not sure of exact stack sizes but, not massive).
Check calling gets most value from him. -
its all about pot control with this type of player. Because they will frequently represent scare cards its easiest just to call down and let them make all the bets for you.
It sucks when say you repop in any of these spots and they repop you with what could be air, a draw, or a weaker pair/kicker.
So keep the pot small unless you have a monster (set), and let them hang themselves in a bunch of small pots.
