  1. what would be fare rake for a 1/2 cash game at my house with a dealer, food and beverage provided

I had to come back and edit this after some of these comments. Yes I want to makey money running a game. That is why most of us play for the loot....the rake always wins. We have a couple of card rooms in town that do pretty well. Live poker beats the hell out of online poker fo sho and I never hear anyone complaining about online rake. Thanks for all the responce. I have decided to do 5% with a $5 max......and buy a big gun. Oh yea....if youve never played live poker with a dealer save your opinion
  2. ten dollars at the door, or whatever amt. will come close to meeting the expenses of dealer and food, etc...

i assume you aren't hosting a home game for profit?

    i wouldn't do rake
  3. It should be a fixed amount paid in the beginning that covers your expenses.

  4. i play in a semi regular 1-2 home game and i dont feel a fixed is rate is fair. what if someone only plays for half hour busts and leaves? should they still have to pay the 10 dollar fixed rate, no i dont think so. the game i play in takes a 1 dollar sitting fee each hour, that is enough to cover pizza and beer and flat rate for 2 dealers. they also get tipped pretty well and they charge 1 buck for crown / jack and cokes. seems like a fair deal all around seeing as how i never do worse than break even/ get to get drunk for free. haha hope that helps with your question.

  5. when i used to run a home game we used to do $1 @ $10 pot, $1 more at $25, $1 more at $75 for a max rake of $3. Even if the pot got to like $500 you should still take just $3...not saying that's what I always did however ;)
  6. The only home game I ever played in that raked provided all the food/drink for free but raked a dollar out of every other pot that had more then three players who saw the flop in it. When the game got under 7 ppl sitting at the table they stopped raking.
  7. once you start taking rake is when you'll get busted.
    GL.
  8. if you're raking for profit, you can get into some serious trouble...

if you for some reason still want to, it depends on who plays the game... if its just friends, rake enough to cover your expenses.

if it's a bunch of random people, i'd say 10% up to 5
  9. i ran a 1/2 game for 2 years.rake is 10 percent up to 50 dollars.max rake of 5 dollars per hand.u should make a profit its hard work running a game.getting players, food ,cleaning uo. treat it like a buisness. also if u dont have a peice i would get 1. if u plan on running it 4 a long time.
  10. better get a lawyer while you're at it too
  11. btw i made 1k per night. 2k sometimes more when i had 2 tables running theres good money in it.and in illinois its is not even a slap on the wrist if the cops come which they never do. they dont care about home poker games. u would most need 2 worry about being robbed.def get a gun. better 2 have it and not need it then need it and not have it
  12. rakes dont work unless you are playing for more money 10/20nl....rake like 4 bucks max a hand... like they said though...dopnt waste your time..youill get into trouble
  13. pm leflyingrat, he'll give u some good tips on gun ownership
  14. yay i/2 200 min buyin i made 1k every friday.the rake always wins dont 4get that.
  15. raking in a home game is so ghey. have everyone just chip in upfront for food, dealer, etc.
  16. Home games are supposed to fun, raking the pot is annoying when you are just trying to have fun and relax. Charge a fixed rate, this will also encourage people to not hit and run or leave early for whatever reason, which hurts the game.

  17. I'd probably say you start at like $7 per pot that has a flop...That'll cover your bail and legal expenses...

Enjoy the Federal Pound Me In The Ass Prison
  18. Any pot over $20 you take $2. That is a very low max rake and will cover you expenses.
  19. if a home game ur talking bout is with all friends, it is a dick move to do rake. if i tried that with my friends they laugh in my face, and if they treid it on me , id laugh too. id just host the game and do pass the deal. there is absolutely no reason for a dealer in a home gamre with friends, unless ur trying to fuck them over
  20. LMAO @ raking 10% up to $5 in a "home game"

That is no home game sir.
  21. Nothing.

At LAPG.ORG our home games are designed so if there is a meal provided, we ask for $7 up front. If snacks and beverages only, then $2.

Are you having a home game or running an illegal casino?
  22. you guys are running some crazy ass shit... we play 2 weekly homegames, no rakes, we just chip in for food, we fucking deal our own games, but then again there are no strangers, its all friends so we trust eachother not to base deal and shit..

you guys are def trying to run an illegal casino if your talking about getting a gun
  23. if my friends tried to rake a home game that i was playing i would bitch slap him in the face. money for chips beer pot and pizza.........raking a home game is scummy.
  24. Well when I ran it, it wasn't friends playing. One of my college buddies and I bought a table, chips, chairs, and rented out this guys basement for $200/month. There were local bingo halls that ran poker every night. Whenever we wanted to run to the game all we had to do was go to the local bingo halls and everyone knew who we were. We easily had 10 players at night and making a solid $500-$1000 cash a night between the two of us. You def. should get a piece if you're doing this and be careful with the cops. We had to stop cuz we were getting hot...class B felony up to 10 years...that will make anyone stop.
  25. Someone's been watching a little too much Sopranos
  26. slap on the wrist in illinois. actually not even that. yay wasnt like i had my buddies i grew up with playing and charging them rake. thats pretty standard rake 4 home games in chicago area. remember the cost of living is way higher here.i worked hard 2 keep that game going. i deserved 2 get paid 1k a nite .organizing it is the hardest part. keeping it full, cleanup, setup, risk of being robbed.u bet your fuckin ass i was gonna make some cake 4 all the work. nothing in this world is free. we pay rake online dont we?
  27. Charging a rake is a Felony in Illinois. Get your facts straight.
  28. for every pot over 100 dollars, rake 99 dollars

that way no one will come back because running a game is very hard, specially if it gets really popular...

    its hard
and most likely it will get busted...

and for someone running the game, if u get busted, its a felony

and for everyone playing at the game its a misdemeanor

    for real though....

if its just a bunch of friends... then just have everyone chip in to pay for food

if you want to run an actual poker room, the usual rake at the games i play is 5 dollars....

but these games provide everything! food, good dealers, good cards, good table, and security....
  29. hey douchebag maybe it is but the cops look the other way. r u gonna tell me how the police work out here 2. piss off douche
  30. There was only one table, ten people playing with 4 ppl waiting, the min buy-in was $100 so there was at least $1,000 on the table so when they raked $1 every other hand with 3 or more players in it it didn't turn out to be all that much. And both guys who's house it was played in the game and both sucked, so the rake was pretty much their buy-in haha
