To a BTN open raise. In general, is it profitable/standard/stupid to re-steal with an Ax type hand, say A7 and below.
-
Depends on several things, such as raiser's tendencies, stack sizes, and your fold equity. This move can work well, but needs to be used carefully in my opinion.

Only if its suited.. Exactly what above dude said. Alot of things. ya know this

I personally DO NOT like to resteal with Ax even to a button riase, for a couple of reasons. Above posters are exactly right tho. The raisors tendencies/image should have ALOT to do with your decision to resteal. But in my opinion, rarely do i make a resteal/squeeze play with Ax, unless it is just soooooo apparent that he is raising any two and you believe that you are ahead with ur Ax like 70% of the time he makes his raise from the button. My reasoning is this...... more and more often on stars in particular, i am seeing players open and call reshoves rather light, with hands like KQ, KJs, etc etc. Yeah ur money is going in good with Ax, but if u run the numbers, Ax is barely a favorite against these hands. And god forbid he actually has a hand like AJ, 88, 99 AQ, etc, ur Ax is a HUGE dog and u will need a lot of help. I would much prefer reraising all in from the bb with a hand like JQs, 89s, 46s, etc.....any of these suited connectors will play MUCH better vrs his calling range. Obv ur intent is not to get called when you resteal, but in the case that sometimes you are gonna get called in this spot, i prefer to have a hand that is not going to be such a massive underdog. IMHO, any suited connectors are a much better resteal hand and i usually shy away from making "moves" with hands like Ax

Resteal w/ hands you figure to be live if you get called. Ax is usually a no-no

Damn that Menna hit it on the spot. You forgot to add 24 suited though that is a huge fav over most hands.

It REALLY depends on the raiser. There are times I feel it is an aggressive player who is good and makes laydowns (annette the example that pops into my head but small sample size of playing together) and I would rather have 56 sooted just in case I ran into something. If it is a player I think might call with crap (standard button raiser in earlyish stages of a $50 stars mtt) I might not mind a/x because you might get a call from a weaker ace or kq or something.
I think people should be very careful shoving all in with under 10 bbs with a/x, but I don't necessarily think you should be super careful in the blinds. -
If I think my Ax is ahead of the raiser's range then I have no problem restealing with it. Sure if he calls you are probably dominated but the many times he has to fold more than makes up for it.
