Would love to hear people's views on this issue The live tournament I play in is a $40 with one rebuy or add on. It attracts about 50 runners, each starting with 4000 chips. The first two levels 25/50 and 50/100 are 45 minutes each. This also marks the end of the rebuy/add on period. Then go levels go up every 30 minutes to 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 600/1200……. Usually I have amassed some chips before the break and then buy the add on for another 4000 chips. The last two games I played I got stacked just before the end of the rebuy period and decided that it would be a better use of my money to not rebuy and try again the following evening because of the prospect of paying the same $40 buy in fee and returning after the break for a shove fest. Question: is this the right decision or is it worth paying the other $40 and joining the shovefest? I also wondered if would be profitable to add-on having had very little upward or downward chip movement? How many chips ideally should a player be aiming to amass during the first part of the tournament? (also worth noting that play is often very fishing with an average of 3-4 callers after a raise of 3-5BBs)

Never rebuy, never add-on. Extract maximum value.

Didn't even read the OP but always rebuy right away and always add on.

in your situation its always best to rebuy to stay in the tournement and give yourself a chance to win. however if u only have say 100$ per week that u want to spend in buyins then maybe for you its better to save it to give it another shot the next day. but if you have say 10,000$ in your bankroll then u should always rebuy-addon in your spot

most confusing thread title ever

few things, rule #1, do not ever set a number of chips to have by a certain point, this increases the chances you'll deviate from the proper play to reach that amount. if you dont believe me ask greg raymer, thats almost a direct quote
rule #2, always double-rebuy at the beginning if its available
rule #3, always add-on if its available
if you can't afford to do so, you are not even remotely bankrolled for a rebuy tournament.
