Hey guys,
Just before I logged off the computer tonight I decided to google "less stress in poker", and clicked the first few links. One link had suggested a supplement "Rhodiola Rosea" and I was wondering if anyone here has tried it. My stress has gotten so bad that when I just see a table it's triggered in my mind and the headaches begin. I think the best path for me to take at this point is seeing a psychiatrist to figure out my thought process and what exactly is causing it, but was just wondering about this supplement. Any responses appreciated.
Thanks! -
Try reading the bible...always helps me

Had a friend take it for high anxiety situations and said it worked great for him. Kept him calm in stressful situations. He didn't use it for poker but i am pretty sure it would only help with bad beats, running bad, downswings, etc. Good luck hope that helps some. BTW my friend used it for work as a police officer.

Just take flips allllllllin!
-
Exercise regularly, sleep 6-8 hours each night, eat a balanced diet, take days off, try to do things outside of poker that you enjoy.
-
"Balance" in life does wonders. If that isn't possible there's always valium, atavan, etc. (< with side effects being.... it'll make it get worse if you're not taking it).
-
sleep/exercise/healthy meal before a session puts me in a great state of mind to grind
adderol/weed is a suitable alternative -
Rapid City,SD? Brother state of Utah?
-
Nope. Thats gone over my head. Anyway...

Smoke a blunt n be oi.
-
Fav music to calm or enjoy.
Get in right frame of mind before, but expect to get some stress..
Self psycology works, saying, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul, really works for me.
Then theres having one or two beers, or smoking something.
Exersize on breaks, have a good sing song while playing.
Smash some ugly looking object youve wanted to for a while!
Sure you can think of plenty more. -
Go see the shrink. This is an emotional/psychological issue, and drugs, booze, exercise, etc. are not going to help you get much relief. The headaches you're experiencing are psychosomatic in nature and are not going to be "cured" by these bandaid approaches.

Maybe go see a doctor, I use to get really stressed about little things went to the docter he put me on vanlafaxine and its helped a lot. Also exerice and eating healthy are very important

Edited By: P0KERDUUDE Nov 15th, 2010 at 05:19 PMI do this already. I live a much healthier life than I used to, and take tons of time off from poker. I haven't played much at all this year due to this issue, and if I can't play stress free then I can't make money.Originally Posted by jmeow

I think this was the best response ITT. I do know it is an emotional/psychological issue, so I shouldn't try to cure it with drugs. That is the problem with society today, every problem has a pill to "fix" it. It's going to be interesting trying to find a psychiatrist who knows something about poker and my situation. Will look around my area.Originally Posted by finewhine

Thanks for all the responses. -
Shrink = bad idea. You have to realize the reality of poker and get your ego out of the way. Poker is a numbers game. Bad beats will occur. As long as you perceive it that way and don't take it personally when you lose, even when you should of won. Be happy people play the wrong cards @ the wrong time and suck out on you. If that didn't happen you could never have an edge at this game. Most of us want to win and be a baller so badly, we can't see the forest for the trees. All the above about balance, rest, exercise, and proper diet also matters. A shrink would only help if there are underlying issues that make it impossible for you to see any competitiion that way. Mostly a shrink would decide you are addicted to gambling and try to move you away from that. That is not the kind of help you are looking for. Remember every bad beat, suckout, and loss gets you closer to a nice win, if you are playing properly. Like panning for gold: Have to sort through a lot of trash to find the nuggets. Good luck on the tables. Kat

Get a motorcycle and a vaporizer, then just learn to deal with stress. I've rarely played a stress free day of poker. Due to business and my job and especially the last 2 years. The best I do is get vaped as much as I can before I start playing. Find some good grind music. And you will be as stress free as possible after a little while.
