  1. 1) Is reraising, like I did, with the intent of pushing all-in on the flop (i.e. provided an A or K doesn't come) a good play or is pushing all-in pre the better option?

    2) And then, my fold on the flop - justified or overly tight?

  2. I probably bet 4500 here pre and jam any flop...I also try to play AK and QQ here the same way. As played, check folding sucks but I think he definitely calls your jam with AJ or AQ and you hate yourself.

    So...imho... 4500>jamming>flat calling>3600.

  3. "So...imho... 4500>jamming>flat calling>3600. "

So, let me understand your shorthand :):

"4500>jamming" - Best Option and better than all-in pre?
"jamming>flat calling" - second-best option and better than flat-calling pre?
"flat calling>3600" - third-best option and better than 3x-reraise pre?
"3600" - worst possible play to just 3x reraise pre?

    Thanks for the response.

  4. I probably just shove flop but I'm spewy like that.

Shoving pre is fine, I like raising to 4k better.

  5. I actually like the 3x reraise. 3x is a standard reraise. i think anything more than that is too much, unless there r more players. but in this case there isnt. As a lot of live pros like doyle, helmuth, etc, dont like to go all in preflop that often unless they have KKs or AAs. a lot of internet players overuse the all-in/jam preflop (i heard doyle say this on tv).

Another thing is that if ur going to reraise preflop, ur almost obligated to fire again on the flop. so i wouldve fired a continuation bet on the flop. he could have easily held any pocket pair. his small bet is pretty suspicious too.

The real problem is not whether betting 3x more, 4x more, jamming, etc. its betting on the flop
  6. "The real problem is not whether betting 3x more, 4x more, jamming, etc. its betting on the flop "

I agree, I didn't like folding on the flop, but my plan essentially was to go all-in on the flop as long as an A or K didn't come on the flop. It did, so I shut down. Weak - I know. :(.

Fyi, the big stack hadn't been very aggressive, but he did recently (say ~10 hands prior to this hand) come to our table. So that factored into my decision to check-fold. I also thought the 2.7K bet was suspicious, but that suspicion could go either way: i.e. value-bet to induce a call or weakness. Didn't have enough play against him to tell either way.
