Just curious...usually this time of year there are a bunch of threads asking what your new year's poker resolutions are...instead here, anyone want to go back about a year in the forums, post your LAST year's resolution and updates on whether you succeeded or failed in achieving it and also maybe some personal insight into why or why not...
...yup I do have a philosophical side...or maybe I'm drinking again....errr -
"Not a goal of mine to get ranked, just if I get 4k mtts I think I will get in there. Also, ive had five total sunday major FT and no top 3 and many 10-30ths. This year I finally get my top 3 in a major and I have a vn year..."
this was mine, didnt get 4k mtts in but did increase my volume slightly from 09, and plan to double it in 2011. Final tabled five Sunday Majors this year, a 3rd (chopped) and 6th in the brawl, two 9ths in the UB 200k both with AA losing aipf at the final table, and a 9th in the UB Sunday 500 100k. I had a good year, but a year that could easily have been so much better if I had held or caught a break or two more. Hopefully I catch that extra couple breaks in 2011 and have my biggest year yet. -
My '10 resolution was to get my first 5 fig. score, got 2 back to back in May then another in November : )

didnt post anything serious in the resolution thread last year but i did respond in 2010 predictions this:
"i have high hopes as well. Midway thru ill have graduated and will get to play full time so im lookin forward to the grind. 2010 just feels like a good year to me, i appreciate the optimism tho thank you hopefully you are right about ur predictions."
lets hope for a good 2011 as well happy holidays guys -

I went back and looked for mine and couldn't find it. I remember my goal was to play 1 million in buy ins combined live/online and I think i got to around 850k (if u count sngs I made it though). Another was to watch a minimum of 1 video/study poker for at least 2-3 hours a week which I mainly did though I've been slacking recently. I also think I meant to write volume 3 of the book, which didn't happen but did finish volume 2. I had a few others but they were personal life/health related that I did pretty well on like quitting smoking/drinking and losing 80 pounds (still haven't done a triathalon or fought an mma match)... I think my last poker-related goal had something to do with focus/ego which is something I think I'll always be working on.

Overall 2010 was an great year for me in both life and poker but I didn't actually complete many of my goals. But, I think the bar should be set high with goals so failure isn't that uncommon. I need to hop on my list making right now though and set out some 2011 goals.

{x} Make $50k
{x} 5 Figure Score
{x} FT a Major
{x} Play the WSOP ME
{x} Win a Live MTT
{ } Beat 100nl over 100k hands
2010 was pretty awesome for me. Some of the things I accomplished I never really expected to. I think a lot of my success has to do with another non poker goal which was to join a gym and get in better shape. I firmly believe this was huge for me, after a year of working out if I go a week without going to the gym I feel unfocused and generally like crap. I've been very fortunate and I am looking forward to 2011 -
Found the thread about people's 2010 resolutions..
http://www.pocketfives.com/f7/new-ye...5/#post5023331
As for my own resolutions listed in that thread:
1. stay the heck away from cash games (Fail)
2. ship a tourney (does a multitable SNG count?)
3. Be at least breakeven for 2010 (not sure but probably a fail)
4. exercise more (Fail)
5. find a job (Fail)
So I guess it's pretty clear I suck at resolutions.. -
"1.) stop bitching about variance/beats
2.) double profits this year while playing less.
3.) accomplish doubling profits by focusing and taking every tourney played seriously, study study study, maybe join a training site again
4.) find some players who aren't to cool/busy and are willing to talk strategy."
1. Outside a close circle of friends I've succeeded with this one. Just because I don't make it public doesn't mean it still doesn't drive me bat shit insane which I hope to find a way to control better. Off the top of my head I've had two FT spots (low volume) that cost me huge. KJ > AA aipf for a gazillion bets and 66 on 6xx board against KK that got there. Seems minor and it is, but those two hands made a monstrous difference in my year.
2. Huge fail.
3. Success. I've studied HH's and remain active in a number of forums trying to pick up things. I've also controlled my punt stacks deep factor considerably.
4. Success. Results haven't shown statistically, but I've learned a lot and it's coming. I met a lot of great players in Vegas this summer and am thankful for that.
I might also add that I killed it with my predictions for 2010 : ) -

Still waiting to know if you accomplished your goals good sir :) -
I can't remember my resolutions from last year. I'm pretty unhappy with 2010 results wise. I'm also not entirely happy with how I played throughout the year, but I have improved tilt issues to a certain extent. On the whole though, I think I really improved my game in a lot of ways, and just hoping that will carry into 2011 results.

Well I basically took 3/4 of 2009 off from poker, and the whole year from sng's, so my goals for 2010 are:
1) play 25 hrs/week of sng's (6 tabling 10 2.5 hr continuous sessions/week) and 30 MTT's/week.
Ya this didn't come close to happening, didn't help that pokerstars banned all WA players
2) FT a live event in Vegas in June.
Got 3rd in the 2K LHE at the WSOP and choped 3 ways in a Golden Nugget June event.
3) Read at least 2 of the poker books I have (that I've never read :D ).
Ya didn't read any books again this year but that should change soon.
4) related to 1, Make Supernova (not really a goal but it will happen if I do 1)
LOL NO
5) related to 3, Improve my NLHE and PLO8 games as Limit games are the only thing I'm any good at (except 2 table NL turbo sng's i.e. not real poker).
Well in October won a $340 NLHE Venetian DSE event (without reading a book) but PLO8 I haven't done much about and now I'm limited to Live and PLO8 isn't played much live.
I guess that's it gl everyone in accomplishing your goals for 2010.
all I want for 2011 is an even better year than last year and the government to get out of my house. -
I was not a part of P5s last year but this year in March I went at online poker hardcore after being a winning live player for years but a loser online. I joined here, started a chat group, and joined pxf. My original goals was to get my stars and FTP roi to the +. I accomplished that on stars, I am getting close on FTP, and I started 2 new sites and am winner on both. I hope to have an even better 2011, gl to all.

Is there a reason you do it by $ amt of buyins vs an expectation/mtt to kind of figure out where you want to be profit wise...

Im guessing you said $1M in buyins at 50% roi (for example) = 500k profit
vs saying your expectation/mtt is +$200 and you plan to play 2500 mtts = 500k
Do you think you have a more accurate guess of your expected roi vs what your expectation/mtt is? Im just asking because for the upcoming year I have said I want $x profit and my expectation per mtt has been Y, so $x/y = how many mtts i need to play to reach a profit #... -
Hey playing alot of tables so sorry if this answer is kind of short/incoherent. Basically expectation is a function of buy in. You're obviously not going to have a 200 expectation playing 20 dollar buy ins so total buy ins has to be more accurate. That being said you have a different expectation/roi in every tourney you play i suppose so even that is pretty imprecise. Overall, the fact that i play online tourneys from $50-10,000 would make "expectation" or number of tourneys played a much poorer choice at predicting results than buy ins played.
