  1. I " took the plunge " myself 2 months ago when I was laid of my job ( $50,000 per year sales ). For the past two years I have been playing in local home games ( see my bio ) supporting my income 2-3 nights a week. Before I was laid off I won $3900 on PP in two tourneys and I was winning on average $1000 per week profit in home games.
When I was laid off I figured " no problem " , I'm doing so well playing cards I'll just play for a while and see if I can make it. I am not a good online player so I mainly focus on my local games ( some of which I run ), and trips to AC and Foxwoods.
Anyway...almost immediately after my lay off the cards went cold...My hands arent holding up....I have been the victim of runner runner so many times I have tire marks on my back!!! It has been a very tough 2 months so far....I hope what I'm going through is just a normal cold spell that every full time player eventually goes through ( or so I've been told ) , I just dont know if I can mentally hold up much longer....It's become so bad that everytime I'm all in with a 4-1 or better advantage, I expect to be outdrawn.....
Have any of you guys here experienced a long "cold spell " like mine before and if so, do you have any advise on what I can do, if anything, to help get out of it??

    Thanks for letting me rant....

Good luck with your game Tranquil...I wish you the best!!!!!!

  2. You cant play poker (a lot that is) without experiencing some sort of cold spell....there are times when my opponent has 1 maybe 2 outs, and you EXPECT it to hit...and when it doesnt you think "oh about time! he must be unluckier than me" THIS IS NOT HEALTHY
Its seems to me that sometimes a cold spell is strictly in your head..you dont see all the times you win when they chase their flush, and fold to a river bet...and you defenitely dont comment positively about it....Try next time you take down a pot w/ mid pair w/ a bet on the end, saying "man, I'm glad that donkey paid me off chasing his gutshot" Got me a lil extra cash thanks to him

  5. The swings will definitely happen. I had a huge losing month last summer, about lost my mind. If I didn't have the nuts, I knew I was losing the hand. I may not have been playing perfect poker after a week or two, but I was definitely still playing pretty well. If a losing gets you totally sideways though, things can get ugly.
  6. Oh I forgot the advice part. Do whatever it takes to get a fresh look at the game. Take a few days off, have a cup of tea and chill out for a few minutes, do whatever you have to in order to start fresh. It helps.
  7. I also think you not having that day job to fall back on might put a little more stress on your game as well, maybe before you weren't noticing those 2 outers being hit as often because you weren't depending on that poker income as oyur main source of income, now every 2 outer that hits is a dent in your pocket. Toughest way to make an easy living. Isn't that what they say. Good luck, and hopefully things turn around for you.

  8. Thanks for the responses......Very good point Mickelson82...Those two outers are MUCH more noticable now! The one other thing I thought of was , even though I may not notice it , I wonder if I'm playing a little different...What I mean is I subconsciously, I might be playing scared and not realizing it....I have to refocus and get back to my normal game...

    Thanks
