There's a pretty long thread in OT about this already so I'll just link to that instead of typing the same things out

But basically, it's a temporary takeover. It won't look like this forever. -
I mean, I run multiple websites and I know how much advertising can help cost, but imo the absolute worst part about you selling pokerdb to bluff was how badly they littered it with ads. I haven't been to that site in over a year because it got so atrocious (so I don't know how bad it is now), but it got to the point where like 60% of the viewport was filled with ads. And don't even get me started on that horrible slide-down ad. idk, being both a website owner and user I can see both sides of things but I think some ads are so obtrusive it becomes detrimental to the site. These stars ads aren't quite as bad - and if you could have kept the same bg color it would be *much* less noticeable - but imo if these ads were any more prominent I think it would be too much.

I agree that Bluff way overdid it (and still does). I'm not happy about it. They've agreed to reduce the ads but I haven't seen it happen yet.
If we had this all the time, I agree it would be too much even as-is. For a few days here and there... I don't think it is too much. The reality is that we do need to generate revenue, P5s costs quite a bit to run. -
Complainy pants!

Not saying it doesn't cost a lot, but what are the expenses of it, not just P5's but any website with significant traffic? If you're not at liberty to say don't sweat it. I've always wondered about this though. These stars ads must cost a pretty penny though, they sure are ugly... I guess whatever it takes to gets your attention.

I obviously can't lay out numbers but, between programmers, servers, other employees (Sandy, dhubermex, etc) and various other things, it adds up to a lot.

- Servers (including bandwidth, redundancy, backup space, etc)
- Salaries...programmers are expensive
- Advertising, promotion, etc
- Admin costs (laywers, metchant fees, etc)
I dunno, I'm probably missing some small things but yeah it's just not as cheap as most people would think -
Right.
We could run a "default" forum design with no programmers, somewhat like what 2+2 does (granted, 2+2 does spend some money -- just not much on customization/design/programming). It would make the site way cheaper to run. But then we wouldn't have rankings, TCs, MPLBs, contest pages, badges, podcasts, daily p5er-related content, etc. -
ur the boy these kids will complain about nething
keep up the good work
