Hi - before I ask my question, I'd just like to say; I'm new here, and I've been reading through the forum posts and articles, and it seems like there's a lot of really helpful people here.
Fairly simple question; I spend most of my time playing the $5 9-man SNGs on stars, and was wondering - how many such games do I need to play before I have a useful approximation of my ROI? My current thinking was that it's meaningless until I hit about 500 or so, but I was wondering whether anyone had any advice on that.
Good luck to all on the tables! -
thousands till you get your true ROI. the more the better.

yeah like he said
500 is a small sample really
hit 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k,.... you get the picture... -
5000 is the number I am shooting for at the $10 and under SnG range. The bigger the sample size the better. It seems like a lot, but it will give a much better idea of your ROI than a sample size of 500. Good Luck

After you play about 300 you will have an IDEA of your ROI/stats but you need at least 1000 to be within 5% of your true ROI (or maybe it is 10%, cannot remember exactly). But if you are improving constantly (as you should be) then you are obviously not the same player after 1000 SNGs as you were after playing 300. And play another 1000 and you should be even better than your ROI would indicate, et cetera. So your true number may never be indicated by your current number (IMO).

Thanks all - looks like I'm aiming at around 5000 then. Shouldn't take me too long, I do get through about 70-80/day.

What tracking system do you use?
-
I dunno what the highest is. I believe 8% is good and 10% is exceptional...
-
PokerTracker for all the complicated stuff, but I also record all my games and results in an Excel sheet I put together (which also usefully tracks my bankroll).
-
I might be mis-understanding the question, but, theoretically the maximum attainable ROI from 9-person games on stars is around 309%. You'd have to come first in every single SNG for that, though.

anything over 5% at the 50+ level is pretty good
