  5. NOTHING!!! Not a damn thing! Obviously, the Safe Port Act is very important but I would have thought Bush would have have made some mention of the new Law.

Perhaps he didn't want to take away from the importance of the Safe Port Act...but who knows.

Maybe it being such a backseat is a good sign. Let's hope!
  6. Here is the Associated Press article about the signing:

  7. This is the Associated Press' recap of the signing today and I do not believe it mentions the gambling legislation either.

That said, this bill is now law.

  8. thanks Dan, you are the man. I love how bush didn't even comment on the bill...
  9. He probably didn't even know it was included in what he was signing.
  10. Today, Friday, October 13, President Bush signed the Safe Port Act and accompanying gambling legislation into law at 10:00am ET.

The Associated Press did a nice recap of the proceedings today. This is a dark day for the world of online gaming. There is now a 270 day period during which the Attorney General's office will decide how to enforce the legislation.

partypoker will suspend U.S. real money operations today as well. FirePay, Paradise, Pacific, titan, and a few others have already begun to do so.

The AP article can be found here:
    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...;type=politics

A full text of the event from whitehouse.gov can be found here, though there is no mention of the internet gambling legislation in anything that was said today:

  11. " re-establish the flow of commerce following a terrorist attack"

    worded like a true republican
  12. Dan- on the 270 days thing- is that the effects WILL take effect in 270 days, or the AG can decide any time in the next 270 days how to enforce them, and at that day they will be enforced.

    TY

    Ps. F Frist
  13. If you read between the lines they realized they pissed everyone off with this one. That is why no mention. Here I am with my ICEE and Popcorn.
  14. The law is effective immediately since it's signed into law. The measures some of the poker sites are taking are some of the effects you have already seen.

The Attorney General's office has up to 270 days to decide how to enforce it and implement measures to do so.

  15. Frist will get his. He has done so much worse in his life than this thing - he needs to worry about all the cats he tortured for personal profit. I am sure that is exactly what Jebus would do, torture cats for money and personal advancement.
IMHO, this is just the first step in the eventual legalization/taxation of this HUGE money movement. The movement of money is always a good thing in a capitalistic economy because movement=potential taxes (and, more importantly, greasing of the political wheels with sweet, sweet cheddar). US B & M companies/casinos will join with existing online sites and then the money can flow to the politicians (now not possible because companies outside US cannot legally lobby).
  16. party not closing, but rather suspending U.S. accounts is also indicative of their actions as a short term solution. I think they will be back at some point.

The PPA and NROG are pushing for a poker exemption first and then regulation and taxation. Hopefully one of these groups will pull through for us.

  17. I'm not sure if it's customary to comment on riders or what, but I did find it odd that it was not spoken about during the press conference today.

That said, the internet gambling legislation is still law and we do need to respect that.

  18. So basically, does it look like other than the sites that have said they will pull out now, all the other sites (full tilt, UB, pokerstars, bodog etc) will likely be opperating as usual for the next 270 days? Is this right?
  19. How appropriate that the bill gets signed on this date.
  20. I want to be the first one arrested under this act..
  21. me too, what a joke, lemme go buy some lottery tickets in my state real quick, thats legal cause the gov, gets half of it, joke
