  1. Im coming to Scottsdale for 2 weeks in the beginning of April and want to play some cards. Any suggestions of where I can play, where the softest games are, or even any P5ers who wanna bring an out of towner into their home game? Ive looked in to the rooms online and found a couple, but wanna know a little bit more first hand from AZ residents or frequent travelers. Any help would be much appreciated.
  2. I just moved out to Phoenix and have only played at one spot so far, Casino Arizona, which happens to be in Scottsdale. They pretty much have everything you're gonna want to play in terms of poker. Pretty decent size poker room and plenty of easy money. They offer tournaments everyday, if you check their website they give buy in/structure information.

Gl. Try hiking Camel Back mountain if you get some time too. Pretty hard hike to the top but worth it imo.
  3. casino arizona is the only place worth playing imo has a huge card room 40-50 tables with all games and limits there isnt however true no-limit at the casinos 500 is the max bet so its spreadlimit but plays the same, staying in scottsdale could be pretty expensive but nothing is far from anywhere is phoenix
  4. What limits and games do they offer? Their website is pretty uninformative.

  5. Well first of all, there are about 5-6 good casinos in the Suburbs, but Casino Arizona is actually in town.

There is actually 2 Casino Arizona's, the first is the original building, pretty much Mckellips and Loop 101 Highway or Freeway (not sure which)

Then there are the tents up about 15 mins north on Indian Bend and 101. That is where the blackjack and cardrooms are. They are actuall building a real Casino Resort similar to Vegas... 20 or so stories high, should be nice because Scottsdale is the Ritzy stuckup rich part of Phoenix.

    They hold these games

$1-2 NLHE (Pretty much, it is capped at $500 max bet) This is a very soft game, everyone seems to just want to get all in as quick as possible, it is kindof insane... (unlike any 1-2 I have ever played in vegas or aruba)

Other than that they have standard Limit Omaha and Holdem

    $2-$4
    $3-$6
    $4-$8
    $5-$10
    $10-$20
  6. Hmm, sounds like it's changed since the last time I was there. The game used to be 5-150, 3/5 blinds with 150 max bet. Retardedly soft game. Nice to hear they upped the max bet to 500.
  7. Casino Arizona has the softest players on the planet, it was actually written in a Card Player magazine that they have the worst players around (The one w/ the Maven on cover for POY award). Only thing is you aren't going to get that big a NL game. They have a 2-5 game with a 150cap, unless they have added a bigger game since I've been there.

  8. The talk about it being the softest games doesn't really surprise me one bit... since I've been out here I've played 5 nl sessions and haven't lost once, only time I came away red was the 3/6 limit game which was terribad.

Gonna have to give the tournaments a shot here soon when I get some time... what's everyone's experience with those?
  9. I live in Chandler which is just south of Scottsdale and I usually play at Casino AZ. The best game you probably would want to play is the 3-5-500 spread limit game which is basically 3-5 blinds with a max bet of 500 since No Limit can't be played in AZ. They also run a 1-2-200 spread limit game. The games are soft and like any other casino, the regs think they are the greatest poker players ever, when they're pretty terrible. You might catch the tail end of the Snow Birds before they leave for the summer so the games should be juicier than normal. Hope this helps and remember that it's Casino AZ @ Indian Bend that has the poker room and not Casino AZ @ McKellips. Like it was stated previously in this thread, they also tun 3-6, 4-8, 6-12, 8-16, 20-40, 30-60, 40-80 and so on limit games. They also run 3-6 & 6-12 limit Omaha H/L.
  10. If you're going to Scottsdale, then Casino AZ in really the only place to go. I live south of Phoenix, so Gila River Casino is much closer. They recently added a juicy 1/2 nl game. The setup at Casino AZ is much better though; projection TV's surrounding with sports on all channels, great wait staff, and most players/dealers there are friendly. Only played a few tourneys, but the structures were horrible. The end of month double stack tourney is supposedly better, not really sure though.

None of my friends out here play poker, so no luck on a home game :(

Oh really... How many people play in dis, I have played a couple there, (1st live tournament, took 4th there :-)) That was about 134 runners....
  14. Here is an informative web site about Casino Arizona: www.cazpoker.com

Lists all the tourney info, cash game details, etc. Questions there will be answered by people who play there regularly.

You can also PM me any questions here or over there.
  15. Some really bad advice in this thread. I didn't want to take more time reposting stuff that is over at www.cazpoker.com, but I guess I will.

    Spread-Limit games (quasi NL)
1/2 with a max buy-in of $250. Used to be $200. Max bet is $250, but if you bet $250, on same street you can raise $250 on top. Rarely becomes a handicap in the game, since 2 players would have to be $1000+ deep for it to be an issue
2/5 and up Max bet of $500. Not sure off the top of my head the buy-in ranges

The 5/150 people are referring to here was what the game used to be. We used to have a cap just a year ago that $150 was the max bet at a time, that has been increased to $500, but only a certain number of tables can have it, which is why the 1/2 game is a $250 max bet.

    Limit Hold'em
    3/6: 1 and 3 blinds.
    4/8: 2 and 4 blinds.
    6/12: 3 and 6 blinds.
    8/16: 4 and 8 blinds.
All these games are jackpot eligible. AAATT or better beaten by four of a kind or better. Both cards in your hand must play. Jackpot starts at $7500.
Bah, I am sick of typing, it is all here, seriously....

  16. One last thing to mention. The new resort and poker room is now scheduled to open on April 15th, so it sounds like you may get to see the brand new place.

That was the first or 2nd date. Finances was a main reason for the delay, as you know we had a big recession, and just look at what it did to Vegas. I am feeling pretty confident about this date. Previously it looked like no work had been done, but I went last week for the first time since Dec and saw very noticeable change, so they are working on it.
