i have no idea if this idea will actually get off the ground, but i thought it would be worth throwing out there.
it seems like there's far too much drama/bullshit in the online mtt community, especially compared to the few times you hear about good stories. a lot of us (myself included) lose sight of how fortunate we are to play a card game for a living, and end up being far too concerned with the things that should be seen as less important in the long run.
i was thinking about ways to do some good, both in the mtt community and in general, and thought up the idea of organizing a charity drive. with the wcoop coming up, september seemed like a good time since a lot of us will be grinding more than usual. i'm going to be donating 5% of my monthly profits to charity and i encourage other people to do the same. it doesn't matter if you're playing high stakes or grinding 4/180s... the idea is to get a lot of people to contribute to something positive in the poker world.
whether you want to pledge a small percentage of your profits for the whole month, one particular day, or even a fixed amount regardless of how you run, it would be great if people would help in whatever capacity they see fit. i also suggest including which charities you plan on contributing to, since that might give other people ideas or help promote those causes.
thanks all and glgl in september! -
Good idea Ben, I'll donate 5%, maybe it will get me to play more :)

Very cool, Ben. I only play one day a week typically and play extremely high variance tournaments, so I'm just going to go ahead and pledge 5% of my MTT profits between now and the end of 2010. I have a charity lined up that's personally important to me, and this would be a great thing to do with some of my winnings. I donate regardless, but this will be a separate motivation. Great idea, again.
