Ok....so for the guys who play for a living....this question is for you....
is it absolutely necessary to review hand history?.....if so why?.....and what am i looking for? -
I just started playing for a living - so take my opinion from there.
I don't review hand histories, rather I talk about current hands I am playing with my friends while they are happening. I like talking about how I could play a hand differently, or how to maximize the value on my hand, or minimize the loss. Usually not during, but immediately after because we'll be watching eachother's tables. "what did you have there?" "T2o" "You could have represented the flush on the turn with a smaller bet I think"....stuff like that.
There are lots of times where there is nothing you can REALLY do. Ie) set over set, overpair to set, flush to higher flush... in lots of these cases, it's unavoidable.
I pesonally don't find much in reviewing individual hands - as I believe that the poker game as played as a whole series of hands. Your decisions should be biased on previous actions shown by your opponents, and from yourself. But yes, I do "review" hands as I am playing them - which I'm sure isn't allowed but whatever... it helps me get better.
Great post.
