1. Hey All,

I'm putting together an article for the World Poker Tour Magazine looking at online pokertraining schools, most notably PokerXFactor and Cardrunners. I’m looking for a bit of feedback on peoples'experiences with the sites, what they learned (or didn't learn), how itimproved their game, what they’d like to see improved, what each site does best, thatsort of thing.

I'd especially appreciate hearing from a couple of ranked players who areor were (paying, non-instructor) members of either site, or players who believewhat they learned directly contributed to them taking down a major tournament(Sunday Million etc.).

If you haves omething you’d like to share, please post it in this thread, or feel free topm me directly.

Thanks!

Nate
2. they all know what there talking about, and they are willing to share their secrets to success. Watch these vids, win mad money
3. Appreciate the response, but I'm looking for something a little more specific like "they really hammered the importance of position and board texture home, but I wish they'd talk a little bit more about contiuation betting aggressive opponents when that opponent's shortstacked" or something like that.

5. I started off in poker about 1 year ago. I had minimal success with a few small mtt cashes and some ups and downs in the cash games. Overall I was a losing player over that year, but not by much. At the beginning of december I subscribed to PXF and began watching videos fairly regularly. I watched the Rizen sunday million win video from start to finish over the course of a week or so. I found this video to be EXTREMEMLY beneficial to my game. The way he broke down EVERY SINGLE semi important hand just boggled my mind. He would even stop at hands that he did not participate in that came to showdown and explain whether or not he agreed with the players play, and commented on what they could do better. I began playing with a lot more confidence and on the 1st of January this year took my first big MTT win, by winning the bodog 30K gtd. This was a huge boost in my poker confidence and I have been itching to follow it up with some success this year, but have not had a lot of time to play. I feel that Rizen is by far the best commentator that I have heard so far, and would recommend any of his videos. I hope to make a couple more decent scores between now and summer, and intend to play a couple of lower buy in wsop events. Maybe I can meet and thank the guy that helped me get a kick start to my game.

6. I started out playing super above my roll and with little concept of tournament strategy until i joined pxf. Sheets is an amazing instructor and the insight he gives to almost every hand is unparralled.
Any average above average or great player can learn a lot from this site.

8. I joined Card Runners in July. I spent several months studying before making a $250 deposit into UB in October. Since then I have made almost $7,000! This is truly amazing considering I had been a chronic losing player for almost three years. I have learned that NLHE is all about position and aggression. I have gone from being aware of card odds, pot odds, implied odds, etc. to being able to apply them to my game in a positive manner. I cannot put into words how much I have learned or how positivley they have impacted my families life. I was able to go from working three jobs to one and now get to spend more time with my wife and eight month old daughter. You cannot put a value on that. I owe Taylor, Andrew and crew far more than I could ever repay them. And the best part? I am getting better and better by the day. I will soon be moving up in limits for the third time this year, which I am told is pretty damn good!

9. Im only with cardrunners but it is an excellent site and helped my Nl game out a great amount. Although i'd rather pay peaople to not run these sites haha
10. Confessions of a former NIT:

I used to make a decent living exploiting online poker as opposed to being good at the game. I was a set miner sporting a stout 12% VPIP and 1.5% PFR, winning about 1.75 bb/100 over 200k+ hands at .50/1NL full ring. I was able to make money because there were enough terrible players out there who would pay off my sets/aces/kings when it should have been obvious that those there the only hands I was playing.

I was also a bonus chaser, and with the help of family/friends I made much more money from those bonuses than I did by playing poker. I was hitting the juicy $200 5x party bonuses 3 times a month for about $40/hr, those were good times.

Then I eventually looked down at my roll and I had 12k sitting there after cashing out enough money to pay off all my debt and buy everything my little heart desired. So I decided that it was time to move up. Unfortunately I just wasn't very good at poker and my set mining strategy didn't work nearly as well at 1/2 so I promptly lost 4k and moved back down to the safety of .5/1. To make matters worse the bonuses were really starting to dry up, things were looking bleak for my poker career.

So I decided that I needed to become a much better player in order to survive. I looked around for a while, read this site and 2+2. Spent a couple hundred on poker lessons, it helped a little but I didn't really feel like I was getting my money's worth. Then I eventually happened upon cardrunners. I joined up and was completely hooked after watching only a few videos.

It seems like I watched videos for a month straight, it completely revitalized my interest in poker. I just couldn't believe how much money these guys were making with a loose aggressive style. Looking back it seems silly but the concept was just so foreign to me, I really thought that NIT was the only way to make money at poker.

I got off to a bit of a rocky start once I returned to the tables, playing way too laggy for 6max .5/1. But I toned it down some and I've been on a pretty good run for the past 4-5 months playing a solid 22/18 "cardrunners style" at 1/2. I feel really good about my game, all the preaching they do on position has really hit home, and I've learned a number of nifty tricks to use against other good players at the table. I've cashed out more than enough to live off of and I'm only a few buy-ins away from hitting my 20k goal for the move up to 2/4. I couldn't be happier with all that CR has done for my game, I am very optimistic about my future in online poker and I can without a doubt say that they saved my poker life!
11. I posted this on the CR forums about 10 weeks ago:

Before joining Cardrunners in September, I mostly played MTTs, SNGs, and HU limit holdem. I was a winning player, but I wasn't necessarily crushing the games. I wanted to play some NL cash games, but I was a total tourney donk in NL. I played some NL cash, and again was successful, but wasn't crushing the games. I felt that I was a lot better than my results were showing (a novel thought for a poker player), and didn't know why I wasn't beating the games for a bigger number. None of my friends are very good poker players, and I would always envy people who knew good players and could learn from them.

Then I found Cardrunners. The information that I picked up from watching only a few videos seriously stepped up my game. I found many spots where I was folding or just calling where I should have been raising or...well, raising or just raising. I started playing 6-max and HU NL cash immediately. I was pretty surprised at how many of Taylor's plays were working like a charm: oh, you limp? I raise! You lead into me? I raise! You [insert action], I raise! OK, it's obviously not that basic, but you get the point. As I have continued to watch the videos, I have found that my poker thinking has evolved quite a bit in such a short period of time. I look back into my pokertracker database at hands that I played just 4 months ago, and I just shake my head at how much my play has evolved (I'm not trying to pat myself on the back too much; I still have a long way to go). I really do owe so much of it to this site.

I definitely understand that my sample size is still small because I do hold a full time job and have other obligations (like SNGs and MTTs. Just kidding. Sort of.). But in my first 17,000 hands of NL cash, I have made just about as much as I have in my entire poker career prior to joining the site. Like I said, I think I was a competent player before joining the site, but I can say with 100% certainty that my results would be nowhere near this without the videos that this site provides.

Here is how I have done (obv, running good too I would think) since joining CR. $20 a month is a decent price to pay. . .

Click: PT results
(I don't really know why imageshack does what it does. This seems to work best when opened in a maximized browser window. I dunno. I merged my HU and 6-max sessions, so some of the vp$ip and other stats look weird. Also, you can see that I took some shots at bigger games, usually when I thought there was a major donator in the game).

A huge thank you to everyone responsible for this site and those who continue to contribute to it. Let's keep making each other better.

EDIT: you can double that green # in the stats since I wrote this on Jan. 1. CR is balla.
12. Prior to joining Cardrunners, I was a poker "lurker". I always read the stories about players making large sums of money and would toss money online, and try to make a miracle happen. Yes, it was literally a mircle I was praying for. I decided about a year ago to throw my money into myself and invest in Cardrunners. Here my play was transformed. For the first 2 month's I really got the power of position pounded into my head. Not a video went by where I didn't hear Taylor or Andrew yelling about position. It almost got annoying. Instantly, my game took off. I saw improvements just realizing to fold A10o in mid position with a raise in front of me. I then started to tackle post flop and reads. You'll rarely see a Cardrunners pro stack off in the videos. This is because they are well aware of reads and flop texture. I've really learned the value of playing overpairs and draw on every differn't board texture.

I was scared to death of cash games before Cardrunners, and now I will not play anything but cash games. I've learned the value of buying in for the full amount and using my edge to be able to win more if I sit with more. The last and most important thing I've learned from Cardrunners is the importance of self confidence and belief. I could be complaining about bad beates , etc but now I just let them slide and review my sessions.
13. Cardrunners has contributed more to my game than I can possibly describe, and continues to do so. I joined CR with very little idea of what I was doing in cash games, and I am now confident and dominating the limits I play.

Zimba does an extraordinary job with the administrative portion of the site and is extremely responsive via forums and via email. Taylor, Andrew, & crew have produced a product that is, in my opinion, the best cash game resource out there by far, and they are constantly improving, not only the cash game aspect, but the MTT side as well. The forums there have proven to be equally as valuable a resource as the videos - the community is simply amazing as far as their willingness to help your progression.

I highly recommend Cardrunners to anyone who is serious about improving their game.
14. Great responses by all, this is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for, thanks everyone.

16. CardRunners is not only an exceptional tool for learning to excel at cash game poker, but the forums and the community are second to none. The videos are fantastic for learning and improving your cash game play, but dont underestimate the value of the other members in the forums. I have never been on any other forum that is so friendly and willing to help as the CR forums - each and every time Ive ever asked members for help privately or otherwise, they have all been just awesome about doing their best to lend a hand.

Also, CardRunners is always seeking to improve on the services they offer, as well as upgrading the site. The recent addition of Brian Townsend to the already all-star cast of players is a perfect example of how CR is constantly striving to offer the best and most complete instruction out there.

I for one would like to thank CR for really opening my eyes to the game of poker, and for allowing me to have the chance to speak with so many great players via the forums. In my opinion, you will not find a better product anywhere.
17. i have never used PXF but did sign up to cardrunners for 1 month to try it out , when that was up i happily signed up for 6 , its not just the great vids they show its also the forums , when you post a question you get serious answers which helps alot and its just the whole community there unlike other forums you dont get stupid answers , nobody takes the piss there , if your a .5/.10c player or 50/100 theres no diffrence to the feedback you get. When my 6 months are up ill sign up for another 6 , i really highly recommend it.
18. PokerXFactor has been big thing getting my tournament game better. I have learned how to play with different sized stacks and how to be aggressive when needed. Rizen, Sheets, Bax, Below, Inissint and BrSavage are very good teachers of the game. PXF forums and chat are good places to get answers to your tough hands etc. I also love handreplayer, which allows me to go through my handhistories animated and also showing important factors like my M. The best thing in PXF is Mindwise, who is working every day very hard to get this excellent site even better :-)

19. I was a winning player before joining POKERXFACTOR;but wanted to take my game to the next level, I joined, watched videos for a week straight;and my first MTT I went deep, out on a nasty beat;and made enough to pay for my sign up;and a yrs subscrpition!
I will be playing a 1500.00 WSOP event,my cash game profits are sick(ty Rizen);and my friendly home game every other saturday has gotten a little tense lately. The cost is a deterent at first;but its the best $ I heve ever spent. TY PXF,the community, pros;and mindwise should be ranked!
20. so, card runners is $20 a month, what's PXF's price and can u pay 4 a whole yr or 6months etc...
21. Why don't you check out www.pokerxfactor.com ?

I'm sure it says there.
22. PXF has helped my game enormously!

My bankroll has increased by a factor of 5 since I joined!

I really like the way Sheets has hammered in (as u say), the importance of stack sizes when making your decisions in any tournament, sng or mtt. Learning about levels of flexibility, fold equity and how to play the short stack to perfection is just so important online!

I also enjoy the childish humour that Bax and Sheets have, lol

Belowabove's vids are sick too!

And Rizen just never makes mistakes.

Thanks guys!
23. This was updated a few weeks ago.

24. I am a member on both sites, and both have helped me enormously to become a better player. I became serious about learning this game late 2006 and subscribed to both sites. Since i didn't know anything before i subscribed the amount they both teached me is huge. Positional play, the importance off stack sizes in the middle stages off MTT's, push-fold scenarios in SNG's, the power off aggession, the benifits off a LAG style, etc. etc. etc. Since i am a relative newby i am still learning on a daily basis, but at least i am winning, which i thank both off the sites for.

I do think each site has it's own strengths and weaknesses. This is my personal opinion and others may have different views.

PokerXFactor:
Strengths:
Videos: The PokerXFactor videos are a mix off both live recordings and replayer recordings. In the replayer recordings there is much more room for explanation which makes for better instructional value. They pause and take the time to explain their tought processes, go back to hands etc. something that's impossible in live recordings. Offcourse you miss something when viewing replayer action (like response times for opponents etc), but i think the mix off the 2 is perfect. Cardrunners only has live recordings which does not allow them to really take hands apart.
Hand Historie analyzer: A tool to view your (and other's) hand histories and analyze your play online. A lot off members (and pro's) post their hand histories this way and allow you to review a tournament, SNG or cash session in a graphical and very comfortable layout.
mindwise: The PokerXFactor site admin really goes out off his way to better the site and comes up with all kinds off creative ways to increase the value off the site. If the things he is planning for the comming year are implemented (like indexing the videos on hole cards), it will be a huge boost to the usability off the videos.

Weaknesses:
cash videos: This is relativly new to PXF and Cardrunners is really much more complete in this area.
limited activity off the pros on the forums: On cardrunners the pros and guest pros take an active interest in the forum posts off the members. On PXF this is not the case (with Rizen as a positive exception). They do have a 'ask the pros' section, but it really does not compare to the active responses you get on cardrunners.

Cardrunners:
Most off the strenghts off cardrunners are the weaknesses of PXF and vice versa. One weakness of cardrunners that really bugs me is the download speed off the videos. Although i do have a high speed internet connection, it takes 10 minutes before i actually see a video after clicking on a link.

All in all i think the best 'online poker training school' is the combination of cardrunners and PXF. I could not imagine stopping my subscription to either without it having a negative effect on my learning this game.
25. I was a winning player before joining CardRunners, but their videos and training changed my perspective on what it is to be a wining player online. I used to be very ABC and CR has developed my game by so much more. I was allowed to become a teacher, and recently a Low limit guest pro. The community is the best part of the site. Being able to chat with pros and get feedback on a regular basis makes the subscription worth everything. I am also very thrilled to be able to teach other players my style and strategy, its a nice form of income as well.

Overall it is a top notch site that I can easily recommend for any person serious about playing poker. The money is irrelevant when it comes to improving your skills in poker. Personally I am trying to get more involved with CardRunners because I really like the people, the company, and where they are heading (which is to the top).

26. I play both cash games and tournaments however I enjoy tournaments much more. I joined cardrunners and although most people seem to think of it as a predominantly cash game site my tournament game progressed in huge leaps within about a week of sitting down and watching alot of the CR videos.

over the course of 2 years before my membership I had made baout 2 final tables in countless tournaments played, the next month after watching the videos I made at least 5. My grasp on how to play in what stages of the tournament increased ten-fold.

Along with this the mature business like approach the lead instructors take towards poker/life make them great role models to aspire to.

Justin "Disrespect" Green.
27. Not much of a tourney player but Cardrunners has been vital to my cash game success. When I joined Cardrunners I was a long term winner at 5/10nl. Since joining I have almost doubled my long term winrate while the games have gotten considerably tougher over that same period. As great as the videos are, the cardrunners forums have had the biggest impact on my game.
28. Being a low limit player (mostly), PXF has helped my game tremendously. The use of the replayer allows me to go back and find holes easier in my game then any other method that was available pre-PXF. I do not play cash very often, but I have learned quite a bit from Rizen's cash game vids. But I believe that the wide variety of pro MTT ( from Below's LAG game to BRSavage's TAG game )players here help to give beginning/moderate/ and advanced players key tools in their arsenal to compete at all lvls. The real gem is in the replayer. With all the different stats it provides, leaks can be a thing of the past with diligence and done in less time than otherwise possible. That being said, i'll leave you with a final thought......

GO GATORS!!!!!!!
