I led right into the raiser with bottom set, but froze with the flush and straight card on the turn, then had to fold the river when the board made a straight and there was still the flush possible. I had a smallish but not desperate stack to start the hand, and thought about shoving the flop to represent a draw, but instead tried to build a pot.
How would you have played it?

No you played it like a champ...especially against ActionJeff...he knows how balla you are...

Thats a difficult hand to play, hard to put AJ on a hand since hes such a tricky player. You should have called the river bet though hes bluffing in that spot more times than not.

gross

damn, sick, gross... prolly wp. i play it the same way.

I think I shove this flop, especially since AJ will seriously outplay me in pots in the long run, the draws on the flop just make it more obvious. However, you obviously don't take this view toward AJ, so building a pot (especially if he might shove a draw here) is not a bad idea.
-
No, obv I would be a fool not to consider my opponent in the hand, and I came very close to shoving the flop, especially since it was an ep raise and I easily thought he could put me on a draw with him holding an overpair.
-
He knows that most people think call on river cuz of spilt, but I put him on A10hh AJhh etc. He might know u limped with a pp in position, especially after ur flop bet, he knows something is up, I truely believe he had a heart draw on flop, and tried to get u to fire again on turn, but u was to smart to fall into his check raise, and he tried to make it look like a bluff-steal on river.

With your stack size no way you should be flat calling here preflop.
Turn really sucks and honestly hard to say what to do since you have such a small stack.
otherwsie i think fold is ok on river. -
I'm confused by his call on the flop. I feel that with an over pair he would have led that flop and with Axhh he would lead or maybe check-raise all-in. The only thing I can see flatting your flop bet is something like KQhh, in which case the hand would play out as it did. Your chopping river at best, and very possibly scooped here and the fold is therefore correct. I think you played it fine.

I would have folded preflop. Also im fairly sure he would check raise all in with a flush draw and overs on the flop, no?. From HIS perspective he can be fairly sure you dont have a 6 bcos the only hand you call preflop with that has a 6 in it is 66 and you would have bet that on the turn. The only way you could have a flush is with a hand like AKhh/AQhh/AJhh so if he knows you dont have that he can shove the river with any holding. Sooooo, maybe he has like AhKx. I think this kinda fits how he plays the hand and I cant think of many other hands he would logically play this way. That said I have very limited experiance of playing with AJ and maybe I am just overthinking things. Even with this read it would be very difficult to call on the river for half the pot but I probably do call and look like a donk when he flips his flush. I guess it just depends on how I am feeling at the time and how much I feel like trusting my read - i actually probably end up folding, idk tho.
