1. I play sng's regularly during the week. I have a positive ROI and am happy with my style. I understand that looking for weak players to play against is paramount to success. My question is, Do you as a SnG regular avoid playing on Friday nights and Saturdays for any reason? I am considering dropping these slots from my schedule as they are consistent ROI killers for me. Mathematically speaking these days should be no different from any others. The instances of losing with the best hand however are dramatically increased on these days it seems. I'm sure I don't need to whine about runner runner this and AK being a useless hand and domination situations being mathematically reversed and higher pairs losing out to lower pairs and all the myriad ways a person can be driven to madness. I am genuinely interested if others have dropped these particular days and are happier for it. sound off I would love to know what you think.
  2. Friday/Saturday nights are the best times to play my friend, plenty of drunk people practically giving money away (especially at the low limits). I have a lot of friends who tell me they lost their bankroll one night after coming home from a party...I wish I played more on these nights but I'm usually out drinking myself.
  3. I hear what you're saying. I wish it was the case. But I am losing consistently to the dongulingus who calls with 85o and hits 2 pair or a runner runner straight. Check these numbers over my last 40 games. these are elimination hands or hands that finished the tourney. 40 hands. when I have best of it I lose - 66% of the time. when its a coinflip I lose - 100% of the time when I have the worst of it I lose - 90% of the time when I have opponent dominated I lose - 70% of the time The results from the previous 3 saturdays are mirror image, except for one where I had results as expected by the hand holdings. All other days played since beginning of 2009 are as expected. I havent stopped Fri and Sat yet as I know I should be loving these 85o callers.

solid sample size. I get frustrated with short term variance too its something I am actively working to not let bother me. Its tough, but focusing on things like the underlined portion will just make u bitter and not better at all. Keep grinding its what I keep telling myself when I feel I'm "running bad" etc
  5. a reasonable reply and I am frustrated with the "short term" variance. Lets hope it stays short term.

  6. lol....and oh its called a downswing, if your playing correctly and every friday/saturday for the year then you should be profitable on these, even more so than regular days because like u said, u can get called aipf by 85o.
  7. Posts like these make me realize why I play SNGS for a living

  8. I play the 50$ non turbo's and it's a way easier game on the weekend. Friday night, usually half the table is out by level 4 or 5, whereas on the weekdays you see maybe 1 person out by then on average. With that said, I like to have a life on the weekend, so I usually just beat my head into the brick wall of regulars all week. And I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I remember taking a bad beat on a Tuesday once, so that pretty much blows your theory out of the water.
  9. Dude u absolutely should play sitngoes on the weekend. I used always take saturdays off until i played a couple saturdays and realized how bad the players are on the weekend. All my usual sitngoes become much more profitable with all the weekend warriors on the felt.

Simply put, "If u dont like people throwing money at you, than dont play on saturdays"

    Really?

    Either you
    a) Have no concept of statistics, variance, a profitable play, what the odds are in a coin flip, hand ranges etc.
    or
    b) Want sympathy and are going about it the wrong way.

Best advice you can get: Put in some real volume like 1k games (assuming you are playing low stakes) and if you are still a loser while it could be variance it probably isn't and quit or start seriously studying the game instead of making these post.
  11. I always found weekend more profitable. And cash games even more so than SNG's so stop playing the SNG's on the weekend and play ring games.
  12. I was talking with a few of the guys that regularly play the sit n gos with buyins of over $100. They assure me that there are not as many bad players.

Theu were all in agreement that you should play in these higher buyin sit n gos on friday and saturday nights. They even went as far as to suggest that you play in these all the time.
  13. Unwise people do, Friday/Saturday night is the best time to play, no argument (unless you do not like money).
  14. I agree w the op, I have a harder time winning on friday and saturday night. Dont ask my why. Doesnt keep me from playing if Im at home though.
  15. I loosely quote stevem1267 "grinding on the weekends is a must for a reg now"
  16. depends what game type i am playing but when really bad players get on a feel like i get my shit rocked for some reason. i don't get it, maybe i just have a hard time adjusting to a bunch of morons playing with me instead of the usual regs.
  17. is this post a joke

friday/sat= more bad players... more bad players=more money

stop looking at short term results, running bad for a few days does nto mean playing weekends is less ev for a good player, it's the best time to grind sng's period
  18. I definitely see what you see, more poor players. Leads to higher variance, but also easy $s.
  19. think of it the other way. the fish dont shove on your bb every time <10bbs. they dont shove the button loose either.

40 game sample size DEF makes this a joke...

Even if OP didnt mean it to be. Simple lack of common knowledge that 40 games is absolutely not even close to make this statement.

***OP, please search threads on attainable ROI's/ expectation~variance~common downswings/ and BR requirements for the game(s) you are grinding. EDUCATE yourself please so you do not make these ignorant threads like this : "OMG I run so bad 40games"..lol j/k

  21. I win far more playing on weekends than I do during the week. Week days seem a little tougher. Im not that good I guess. lol
  22. During the week you have a more of a known crowd where you know there tendancies and they yours.

Weekend as stated earlier more of a variance where the weaker hands call raises and shoves and hit on you.

Why? Most are there to play hands not multitable grind so they will not fold so you suffer more badbeats than you would with regular players.

The grinders are multitabling the bigger MTTs and not playing the Sit an Gos so the variance is higher with weaker players.
  23. Thanks for the posts people. To the posters who replied that either this post is a joke or I am an idiot of some sort. 1: I am well aware that 40 games is not a sample size of any note. 2: I am not looking for any sympathy 3: If you read my post without being such chronic haters you could see that I outlined the expected profitability of these games and an understanding of math. To the posters who replied without hating. 1: Thanks for your thoughts. Overwhelmingly the idea is that Fri and Sat are there for the killing. I personally won't be taking these days off for the same reason as you all play them. I had read a post here recently where someone had mentioned the Friday and Saturday curse and wondered if there was any history or validity to that term or this discussion. peace

Ok Bro, I didnt mean to sound like I was hating. so heres the skinny:

If you are a S&G grinder and play for profits only and not for a hobby then your VERY BEST time to play is when the fields are donk filled weekend warriors blowing off steam. Variance and swings will be higher due to no-foldem donkfilled feilds, ROI will fluctuate more than normal, adjust your style accordingly and in the end your hourly rate will be higher so play more more more more on the weekend....

"theres wisdom you can take to the bank"

    GL...

  25. You know I noticed i would lose with the best hand more often than other times on the weekend. It could get pretty frustrating at times. However the games are still good based on the type of players playing. You can offset the bad beats by possibly increasing your volume. That being said I still prefer to play through the week with the regulars that i usually have notes on and know there style, tougher games but a lil more straight forward
So in conclusion I agree with the original poster (although I think 40 games is not enough to make a fair assesment) and I also agree with the others that the game is weaker on the weekends

  27. i thought I ran bad on weekends because of the donks playing.

    turns out i just suck
