Is it -ev to shove JJ from UTG early? 9 players, pretty even stacks
-
buy in?
but usually yes, you will get called by ak, aq and obv qq+ -
I might be taking it out of concept or even not remembering correctly, but I believe in one of the HoH books the math was shown that open-shoving QQ was -EV. I don't recall the exact situation in that hypothetical, I'd have to go find it.

I think open shoving ANYTHING early in a SNG is -EV. Let's look at why... First, generally speaking, the only one who calls you has you beat. Mainly AA or KK. Second, if no one calls, you took down blinds @ 15/30. So you pick up 45 chips and risk 1500.
Last, you scare off hands that will call a raise like AK or AQ and a chance to pick up a decent pot when they airmail. IF you can't fold when a A or K hit and someone reraises you, then get a little discipline in your game or just fold JJ in this spot. -
What are the blinds and what is your stack? What kind of tourney is this? Is it a loose rebuy, is it a tight table? But typically, I say yes, because you're mainly only getting called by a better hand.
