In harrington's third book, one of the last problems he goes over involves sng play.
He makes the assertion that on the bubble of a SNG, if you are about even with the chipleader and he pushes, your calling range should only be AA KK and ak suited.
I agree with that to a point, and he has the math in the book to back up his theory on the proper calling range.
However, playing online, when you see the same guys all day long, I hypothesize that your calling range should be more liberal, so that your opponents know you are willing to call with marginal hands and they will attack your blinds less. (assuming you are a regular at a game and players know how you play).
Comments on this? Im not really sure where im going with this thought, I just know that when I read his part about sng play, i disagreed with some of his calling ranges, and this is probably why. -
I haven't read HOH 3 yet, but no way is my calling range that small. I think playing for first mandates you expand that range to at least JJ+/AQs+. 4 handed you aren't going to catch me folding QQ very often without a damn good reason, especially given what you say in regards to blind defense.

"I think playing for first mandates"
But sng's aren't about playing for first. They are about maximizing your expectation (essentially making the money first then worrying about first place).
I understand what Mantis is saying though, Harrington is only focusing on the math of a given situation, not the long-term psychological factors. -
I agree with Harrington here, and I think AK is even a fold in a lot of bubble spots, but for metagame purposes, for situations where you're constantly playing vs regulars I agree it is a very good idea to get liberal on the bubble because you'll get more walks and it will increase your long term $+EV
