  1. I've mostly been playing multi table tournaments for the past month or so. Prior to that most of my experience was at sit n go's. In order to become a better and more well rounded player I'd like to work on my cash game. I have dabbled with some higher limit games from time to time with mixed results.

I plan to 4 table .50 / 1 6 max NL at party poker. I expect to be able to beat the first couple levels without much trouble.

How quickly should I move to the next level and what sort of profit should I expect to be showing at these low levels. I assume several of you have worked through these low limit ring games and can give me some idea what to expect. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  4. I might get flammed by others but to hell with it. My personal experience is that "beating" micro limits and super low limit games to "prove" yourself so you can move up to higher limits is a waste of time. You can beat $.25/.50 and $.50/1 and $1/2 games online and make some change. But the amount of time and patience required to grind out these limits and play so tight you only make $20-$50 week or maybe more, is not gonna make you any real money ,if that is your goal in poker. The purpose of lower limits is to teach you the game and let you learn while keeping the risk low because the amount you could lose is low. I recommend you save up a little more money through work and put a few hundered, at least $300, in an online room and start at $2/4 limit, or put $500 or more in and start off in $3/6. You will have to play by the book, tight agressive play and don't play to many hands, but when you rake the few pots you win, they will be for more and you can only win two or three big pots in a 2-3 hour session and make $50-$100 per day. This isn't guaranteed and if you haven't tried $1/2 or .50/1 yet, and don't have the confidence, then don't jump on my recommendation. But if your good and multi-table a few $2/4 tables you could make a few hundred a week as compared to gas money at $.50/1. Just my personal view, but the low limit games are much more of a crap shoot lotto game and will fustrate you and have a high variance and swing in you bankroll than playing tight solid game at say $2/4. I am a great sit n' go player too, but that is No Limit and totally different than limit. Don't waste your time "learning" at micro limits. You will learn that the limits are so low that the money doesn't mean much to the players and they are playing at those limits to have fun and won't fold to any bets. Your gonna beat your head at those limits, and after playing tight for hours, will only make a small gain. You are better off investing a little more like I said and trying a little higher limits. Just to let you know, Mike Caro considers low limits anything under $9/18, so if everyone here says $2/4 and $3/6 are middle limits, go tell them off. Middle limits don't start till $10/20 and up. I don't know your situation and all so you maybe can only afford micro limits. But if you can save up a few hundered, try what I said.
  5. Maybe I'm dumb but I think LowKey was writing about NL cash games, not FL. "NL" was the keyword I guess.
  6. fear you are completely wrong. i 3 table $50 and $100 NL on bodog and party and average over $60 / hr profit playing about 20 hours a week. i would move up, but i have to pay for school with my winnings unfortunately.
  7. low stakes NL ring games quite often turn in to nut peddling, as pushing draws rarely works. But they are certainly profitable and beatable. And by the way, the PATIENCE and DISCIPLINE necessary for these levels are skills that have to be learned learned and employed. So i agree that fear doesn't have it quite right here.
  8. umm 1/2 NL is where you can maybe make 20-50$ a week????????

just 2-tabling 1/2 and playing solid for a couple hrs 300-500$ profit isnt very unheard of...can easily make at least 1k a week if youre 4 tabling for 20 hrs...
  9. couldn't agree more amor .........
  10. fearchaos, your numbers are way, way off.

To the original poster: what limit to play at depends on your bankroll. A winning player should keep a bankroll of 20 buy-ins; a beginning player should definitely have more. Get Pokertracker and track your sessions. To be conservative about it, if after 10,000 hands you're making 20bb/100 hands and you've got the bankroll for the next level, then it's probably safe for you to move up. You could probably also move up if it's painfully obvious that the players at your current limit are much worse than you and you have the bankroll for the next limit.
  11. I play often with Amor on low limit paradise under a different name and I make a decent bit of money playing $10NL for less than 5 hours a day.
  12. Yeah, 10-20 per hour rate at that level is not unusual.
  13. Hey sorry I was writing that at 2 in the morning. I didn't notice that it said NL ring games, I just Assumed he meant Limit. Sorry. But my opinion still stands for Limit in that post.
  14. The generally "accepted" returns do not apply to online Low limit NLHE. The returns are far higher in relation to the amount risked than is the case at higher levels. Four tabling the $25 tables at party you could easily make $50 per hour consistently.
