Somebody needs to take the withdrawal button away from me. Tell me if anyone else has this problem. I dont know if im scared to step up my stakes or just in love with spending money, but everytime I build my bankroll I just have to cashout! I get 2k in my account and instead of steppin up my game from measly .5/1-1/2 no limit and $10-$50 MTTs i cashout and assure myself much more face-time with the decimal point. I feel like I am ready to step to higher limits but at the same time feel apprehensive at the thought of it. I consider myself a solid player (who doesnt?) that grinds out an ok amount playing these small stakes. Its not that i am dissatisfied with my results as much as I am wondering if I could increase them to a more lucrative amount. But I am also apprehensive about dipping into bigger swings. Do i just need to let my cojones drop or am I justified in my approach? Poker is not my job but it surely is a nice supplement (1-2k per month). I guess my major question is has anybody else gone through this and if so any suggestions?(Aside from a vertical drop of my reproductive organs)

3 table 3-6 NL

with 2K in your acc.??? thats a good way to go broke

Are you saying that playing 2/4 NL with 2k would be overly ambitious? Do you usually follow a 10x max buy-in rule for cash games? 5x has never been a problem for me at the lower limits, but does seem a bit risky.

Hey Birds,
Yes, I've had similar issues. In our case we use the meager winnings for extra income (we're a family of 4), and it's always nice for us when there's an extra $500-$1k coming in per month to spend on fun stuff.
But yes, it has gotten very old always grinding it out with about $500 in my account (if you think cash games are a grind, try multi-tabling low buy-in SnG's, they're about as fun as watching paint dry). After talking it over with my wife earlier this month, we finally decided just to leave any winnings (within reason) in my poker account in order to move up one buy-in level if necessary.
And that's what I've done. Most guys/gals have a pretty hard time avoiding the higher buy-in tables, but I suppose I'm the opposite and a complete bankroll wuss. After a little badgering from my online poker buddies, I've convinced (almost unwillingly forced) myself to leave the ultra-comfy zone of $10 SnG's and start 4-tabling the $20's along with playing some of those money-shredding $20+$2 180-person SnG's.
So far, it's been very successful short-term and I've had the best week financially ever as far as poker goes. I notice that I'm paying attention more than ever while 4-tabling the $20's because I'm so afraid that if I don't I'll mess up a decent opportunity to become accustomed to a different level. My account is currently hovering around $2,000, which is the most it's ever been at since I started playing over a year and a half ago; and it does feel good now to play $20's all the time and to have about 100 buy-ins to those.
But I understand where you're coming from. And it's a source of constant pride when you're able to go out and do something you enjoy with poker winnings, even if it isn't a gazillion dollars (or even a thousand). But I'm sure it puts a lot of pressure on your game and you personally to have to start over after cashing out with only 5 max. buy-ins to that NL Cash Game you play.
My advice would be to try to get to the bottom of the dilemma you're facing by doing a little more soul-searching. I have a feeling that you know (or have a pretty good idea) what the correct answer in your particular case is. And whether it's continuing to grind it out until you feel you're ready or taking a long-awaited step up in buy-in level; the decision should always be yours since you know your personal situation better than anyone.
Best of luck to you,
David Huber

if you want to be safe, then you need prob. 30 buyins for nl games, this will prevent you from going broke. You can play 2/4 nl with 2k, but one cold streak and youre tapped, gl to you if you try, but it is very risky

great post dhubermex!
what he said.

Thanks David for a great post. I was hoping someone else had gone through this, now i dont feel so alone in my indesicion. You are right though, no one can answer this question for me it is a desicion i have to make for myself. I appreciate you sharing your situation with me, and upon further thought I think I am going to do an experiment where I step up my level on one site but remain in the lower limits on the others. This will hopefully eliminate the possibility of me blaming it on a "bad run" if I dont do well because I will have my other sites playing the lower limits to refer to. Again thanks for a great post.
