When a girl, a friend, or my brother etc. asks me in a text or on the phone at some point during the day or night when im playing mtts, "Are you winning?" or "How are you doing?"
even when ive repeatedly told these ppl, i play tourneys, so its an impossible question to answer, and its quasi rude to ask ppl stuff about financial situations etc. especially if a person doesnt know u very well.
but, i usually say something along the lines of "i dont know", "not sure yet" etc. etc. and some of these ppl get all mad, like, "why cant u ever just give me a straight answer!!??" or "What do u mean u dont know?" "u either are winning or u arent".
and if u do say i play tourneys/usually not cash games, or i wont know how i do til alot later in the day cuz u dont make any real money til the final table etc.. That stuff always just leads to more bs questions and shit i have to try to explain taht just makes me even more pissed, especially if its someone taht ive either explained it to multiple times or always asks the same shit, and i tell them that its an impossible question to answer and to stop asking.
obv, as i write this, the girl that asked if i was winning in a text that made me write this thread, just texted me back with a bitchy text cuz i didnt respond to her text, basically saying, "well, i guess thats a no, sorry, just trying to have a convo, whatever, blah blah blah"
i edited title cuz it seems like ppl think im losing sleep over this or im gonna disown family and friends, and i was just posting something that annoys me occasionally that i figured other tourney players could relate to, i dont get mad at the ppl personally lol, just tilts me -
Nice brag about having a girl text you.
-
just say "im up" and end the convo?
-
You sound like a fun person to be around. You been winning today???
-
tell them that you are raping harder than djk + breeth / dipthrong.
-
Social Skillzzzzzzzzzz ftw.

They aren't actually asking you "so, how many BBs you got left" just translate it into "how's work going", or "how's your day been", or "how's your family doing" or any other open ended question.
Lemme translate, it's their way of min betting the flop and it allows you to set the convo topic...you'll be okay. -
cosign hate that question when im playing mtts. first off: i have no idea yet, but also, prolly not 9/10 times u ask, so quit asking. people just dont get it.
-
u are right, but ive explained this to her before, and shes just super annoying in general, but she means well, so just im too nice to be a super dick to her

exactly
-
i'll take this one step further. It is super super tilting to me after a tourney if someone asks "did you cash?" Like cashing is the ultimate goal.
-
lol, and their like, that's good, so u made money right? (when u more than likely lost overall for the day)
-
I also hate the question "how much is it if you win the tournament", and you are in the middle of the rebuy period and this forces you try to explain that 1st place has not been established.
-
I hate this too, actually I hate poker in general, but I think I hate this question more. Plus there's no accurate way of answering the question, "Ya I won a tournament for 4k". OMG THATS SO MUCH MONEY. Ya...except I was down 10 last week
-
I normally say, NO im losing, and try to get across kind of frustrated/irrated. good excuse for not being talkative bout the subject or rude, its impossible to level with non-players talking bout poker. they just dont get it, they dont wanna get it, they dont get the answers, just a stupid questions they cant stop asking!
-
I know exactly what u mean Op.. The same shyt tilts me to no end!!
-
You play poker for a living and you expect people close to you to never ask how your doing loool. DEAL WITH IT or be a loner. I'm sure you play a shitload of poker as well so wth else is he/she supposed to ask you considering it probably consumes most of your life?
-
not really what is being said at all. im cool with family and friends asking me how i am doing and whether i am winning, just not in the middle of a mtt session

i 100% agree with OP ... i have a roomate who plays cards and sorry to say but not very well ... be he will always ask me after like an hour of playing how its going and ive tried to explain to him that i could be the chip leader after an hour and not even end up cashing ... dont know why this is so tilting for me but i see im not the only one
-
Well if thats the case why wouldn't he just turn off his phone during his sessions since it tilts him so hard?
-
Basically exactly what I'm saying, How can you expect someone not to ever ask about your job. If I played poker professionally and something this stupid "tilted" me I would simply turn my phone off and not have people over or have a private room for playing. If your saying people asking anything in general with poker lol GG social life.
-
I get asked this on a daily basis and it also tilts me. I usually end up saying something like "not yet" or "hopefully" if its going good and "i dont want to talk about it" if im having a bad day. I have tried explaining it also to people who dont play poker and they still ask everyday. oh well just try not to let it bother you. i guess they are just trying to be nice.
