  1. ok, here we go, anyone every have this happen, it's been a real bad day, im usually a 2/4, 1/2, 5 and 10 dollar sng player mostly, every once in awhile i'll get in 20 dollar tournys and sng's.

anyway, i've lost $200 today which i know is not alot to some, but for my limits i play its a boat load and here is how i lost it:

7 Card Stud: lost 4 hands in a row at UB, $80, w/ a Boat to a bigger boat, a flush to a higher flush, trips to a boat, straight to a higher straight.

1/2 Hold em: UB, lose w/ big slick to ace/rag, AA to JJ, and Q/K to Q/J. i also played some suited connectors and everytime i hit a flush or flopped one, someone had a bigger one.

    so then i change sites:

party poker: lose 4 $5sngs in a row w/ people calling my A/K all in w/ K/J and hitting Jack, also i had Q/K flop: Q-5-3 guy bets into me i go all in and he had K5 of course trips his 5. and worst of all at a $10 sng i have A/K flop: A-5-2 after a big preflop raise and one caller im only left w/ so much i push all in, pre-flop was 800 raise, and i have 900 left to push, and guy calls w/ 33 and hits a 3 on river. how are you gonna call w/ 3's!

then i goto paradise poker and get a 3rd in a sng thankgod.

want to play UB tourny, and get knocked out in first 2 hands i have AA that loses to Q/10 and A/K that loses to 10/J both w/ the normal preflop strategy also, i just didnt let everyone beat me.

thats it, sorry for the vent. i dont feel any better but what do you guys usually do when you are on a bad streak, you take break or keep playing hoping to bounce out?
  2. You can't avoid streaks like that...take it from someone who just had a bad one. Just be thankful that you play at lower levels or you'd have lost much more than $200.

We were talking last week about what to do during a bad streak. The consensus was that the pros usually play through them. I took a few days off after my bad streak and I'm up about $2k this week plus a few entry chips (considering I mostly play $50 heads up, $50 SNGs, and heads up PL that's a solid week for me as my goal for the whole year is $30k).

Taking a break isn't going to magically change your luck but the two times I've done it I've come back real strong. No superstitions or anything, I just come back focused and I play very well. Last time I won 19 straight heads up games and this time I've won 20 times in a row at heads up PL. I just need to learn how to play at my highest level even when the cards aren't falling my way, and until then I'm going to simply stop for a while.

When you get on a bad streak and have a lot of bad luck, the truth is you're the one creating a lot of the bad luck by making marginal plays. I'm not saying that's what you did today, but if you keep going tomorrow and you have a bad run, it will most likely be because you're forcing things.

I guess my advice would be to take a couple days off and then come back unless you feel you can play at your highest level right away. Until I learn how to handle the financial and emotional swings of a bad run that's what I'm going to do.

    Good luck...
  3. thanks for the reply, yeah, i've been making bad plays also, i was in the 3am UB $10 tourny tonight, was up to 10th in chips, i was between 11th and 24th the whole time w/ 50 left, i first made a bonehead play raised the pot had 2 callers and one all in, i called the first all in until next two went all in, when i coula saved about 2K in chips by just folding. Then i was on the button and called a raise w. A/4 suited guy in small blind bumped it to me being all in cause of my stack, (i was still in like 26th) it payed top 30, so i just pushed all in, and guy had QQ, i went out 33rd, shoulda just stuck around.......
