Specifically :
1. Early stage
2. Mid stage
3. Late stage -
If you are bluffing you should be attempting to repersent a big hand or a hand you want max value from. Therefore you need to be willing to risk whatever it takes to make that line believable. Shouldnt be bluffing very often where you feel like there is a good chance you are losing any percentage of your stack. Also shouldnt change your bet sizing based on the fact you are bluffing and are willing to lose a certain amount. That said, I think bluffing in early stages of tourneys for over 10% of you stack is normally going to be a bad play. Again tho you must do whatever it takes to make your line believable based on your read that your opponet doesnt have a strong enough hand to call your bet.

i feel like if you're asking this question you're not thinking for yourself enough
but to answer it... if you need to go all the way on the bluff then ofc 100% of your stack. it just better work enough of the time -
Thanks guys,

Well I was thinking more from an advertising perspective to get people to call you down light. Would you be willing to bluff off 30% with the merits of :
1. You win the pot when nobody calls.
2. You lose the pot but get to show your bluff to make people think you are a maniac to induce lighter calls. For example, after showing 94 suited for a bluff, I was getting called super light on my all INS . The next 30 minutes everytime I was in a pot, people were willing to get in against me with crap like weak aces and king high.
We know that advertising you are a maniac can lead to people calling you down light or playing back at you with crap. I guess it comes back to how bold the bluff is. So I am wondering what % of your stack would you bluff to get the desired reaction.
Am finding 30% early on is working to get that reaction and gives me enough chips to nit it up if I run card dead after nitting it up -
A couple problems with that:
1) Your table may break and you lose a significant portion of your stack to create an image -- which then does you no good.
2) People no longer respect your c-bets, which makes it difficult to scoop pots without making hands. -
^^^ agree. So then what % is good to get called light but yet still have enuff to address both those points?
-
^ i'd think if you're trying to do something like that, it really depends on the situation.. again, there is no general %. also i don't really bluff hoping to get called and i generally don't show my cards either
-
%%%???? BLUFFING IS AN ART MY FRIEND THE RIGHT AMOUNT IS CRUCIAL WITH THE THINKING PATTERN/WHAT ACTUAL HAND U ARE TRYING TO PUT UR OPPONENT ON JUST TODAY FOR EXAMPLE I RAISED A7 FROM HIJACK BB CALLED FLOP CAME IF MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT Q 10 9 RAINBOW I C- BET APPROX 2K INTO 3500 POT HE SNAP CALLS TURN CARD IS 3 I HAVE HIM ON K10 OR K9 OR A9 A10 AND POSSIBLY AJ THE TURN CARD MADE POSSIBLE FLUSH DRAW BTW THIS IS HUGE IN MY THINKN SO I BET THE POT AND HE SNAP CALLS RIVER CARD IS 6 NO FLUSH CONNECTION BASICALLY SAME READS AS FLOP FOR ME ON HIS HAND SO WITHOUT HESITATION IM ALL IN REMAINING LIKE 10-14K I HAD AND HE MUCKD AND I WIPED THE SWEAT OFF MY BROW OH AND BTW I WENT ON TO WIN THE TOURNEY IT WAS A 4400 PURSE 60 BUY IN ON merge 1200 PULL TO END MY DOWNSWING :p:p:p

As far as showing bluffs goes, i generally don't show one unless my table is not giving me the desired amount of action. This being said if you are a generally tight player and your game plan excludes running a lot of high risk bluffs, showing a bluff early on can be extremely profitable :)
-
thanks for responses. so is it only profitable in the early stages only?
-
you need to think about the situation yourself and think about what showing your bluff would do for your image and in turn how your opponents play against you.
it's a pet peeve of mine when people ask these really broad questions like "so i only bluff & show in the early stages?" no, it's completely situation specific. think of each player at your table as a variable in an equation, along with their emotion/tiltness/etc. you're trying to solve the equation of what's the best move at that moment and also for your future (like showing a bluff or not) -
Bluffing has to be the most misused plays in poker. Pulling off bluffs is entirely situational and to try and use it early to advertise I think is unnecessary. When I bluff early it's because I feel it's the best play to take down the pot and I don't usually show, just move to the next hand/play. The best time to show a SUCCESSFUL bluff I think is at the final 2 tables because that's when a lot of players start to feel more pressure and the impact of their mistakes can throw their entire game off, As well as the rest of the table. At this point you can almost control people. I say successful because if your getting bluffs picked off then you are better off never bluffing.
But to answer the specific question
I'm never willing to LOSE any % of my stack on a bluff, and I'm willing to RISK whatever amount it takes for me to win the pot. -
well said
-
in the early stages the most bluffn i pick off is the 3 handed 4handed obv nobody has anything type board and usually this is from the blinds and its a blinds type board and all it takes is the smallest bink bet, when ur first to act on the turn, is my most simplest common pull down other than tht no need to get all crazy early with wild bluffs on pots with no value whatsoever
