If you think you are likely to get called, you should never shove with Q high, period. If you are called, you're probably going to be dominated about 1/2 the time, and the other half they will have at least king high. That means you will only double up about 40% of the time. You're better off shoving your short stack with something like 87 suited that Q high, at least with the smaller cards you are less likely to be dominated, and having suited/gapped/connector cards is also very important because a lot of times you will have to suck out with a flush or straight to stay alive.

I expect that overall, the percentage of the time you'll double up after shoving with Q high is closer to 30% than 40%, just wanted to correct that.

whered u get that math calhoun??
and yes i shove here. -
5 people fold in front of you and you want to fold a suited Q10? I'm shoving that all day esp. with only three people to get through. The button and SB will have to call off ~50% of their stacks so they probably aren't calling too light, the only thing you have to worry about is the BB with ~1500 since he's already got 250 in there.
Easy shove. -
you're not better off shoving 87s than QTs. huge misconception.
