Stars '08 Yearly TLB leader berating fish in 1500 WSOP, wtf!

    I rarely post here, and rarely would I care about a young kid being a dildo to a fish enough to post about it on the internets since it seems to happen it's fair share, except this guy, upon losing a flip to bust to J.R. Bellande, took J.R.'s "good game" and said "Well, I'm the number 1 player on stars bla bla bla derek8 bla bla".

    Apparantly this derek8 character is leading the TLB this year.

    There's really not much purpose of this post beyond spite. I know numerous young online players here have rivalries with each other / think each other is bad, whatever.

    BUT DONT BERATE THE FISH. WTF.

    Example 1: I get moved to derek8's table early on into the first level, and there is a clear megafish in seat 3 who is doing things like calling large flop bets with ace-3 high and donking the turn and river for 1/10 pot when the board gets more coordinated.

    The action goes multiple limpers to derek8, who makes a large raise from the SB at 25/50 to something like 600. Action goes back to the fish, who proceeds to go allin for 1300 total with 64o. Derek8 calls with AKo and loses, and proceeds to just lose it on this guy, dropping numerous lines about how bad this guy plays and telling the rest of the table that he's the mark, innocuously or otherwise.

    Example 2: He berates me! But apoligizes afterwards. Megafish limps, derek limps 77 OTB, I make it 325 with ATo to iso the fish OOP, it gets to showdown with Megafish calling flop Cbet with a gutshot and hitting a pair of nines on the river. A bewildered Derek8 goes off on me for playing *that*, and I tell him immediately "Take it easy, buddy" which shuts him up, and he apoligizes an orbit later. Some short time after he apoligizes to me, he berates the megafish a little more!!

    Again, there's really not much purpose to this thread beyond pleading to other young players about to play live, DONT BERATE THE FISH. Yes, you are obviously better than 99% of a $1500NL field, so just take that knowledge and be happy about it without showing off and making fish feel inferior.

    Tons of casual players make up what makes these tournaments so nice and soft. If someone like the megafish sits down for the very first time and faces the berating that this one got from derek, there is a nonzero chance that he will become less interested in poker if he knows people are just gonna make fun of him. Either that, or he's gonna try really hard to get better and he'll become less of a fish.

    Please act like professionals this series, and be nice to the fish. Thanks.

    I'll agree with Clayton_27 here. There really is no need to berate a fish....just chalk it up to a welcome addition to the poker ATM.

    On the other hand....I'm alright with the fish being donkish....but I can't stand it when a fish donks out and then proceeds to talk shit.

    Now THAT pisses me off....if it happens to me or not.

    Kid obviously is a huge douche.. ive seen him berating players at the tables too.. didn't think he'd actually do it live... funny stuff.

    This seems like a good time to mention one of my favorite P5's posts ever, by Ari, where he points out that he treats everyone at the table like a paying customer. Everyone puts their own money into the tournament to play, and they may play however they please to do so. Fish are paying customers. Many are playing just as an experience or to have fun. If they make dumb plays, it's their money and their business.

    I totally agree. Berating fish gets you absolutly nowhere other than a place to vent your tension in one hand. In the long run however berating the fish is just educating them or alerting them to the fact that they did something wrong and the next time the situation comes up again they will make the correct play. The amount of money you make in poker directly correlates to the amount of and quality of the mistakes your opponents make so why would you want to stop them from making them. Good post and look forward to hearing more from you.

    While I cant say that I have never berated any player. I do agree with not doing so and I do give a strong effort not to do so.

    I was playing at a table with tmay and he was telling some guy at the table not to do such a thing and trying to explain why but he was coming off like a whiner in my opinion which led the guy to basically not respect his opinion. Then when I tried to chime in he told me to shut up.

    If you want someone too respect this issue try to be as respectful as possible when addressing it or your efforts will simply backfire and you have wasted your breath imo.

    Wow this cool i belong Poker Message forum where NOBODY it seems has ever berated anyone before... Amazing imo... Funny part is that i can remember being berated on this site on this after a post. and by a show of hands (or types) how many people are friends with Derek8 to make such statements as douche bag and toolBag? If you cant understand his berating at the tables how can you come here PocketFives a major forum and Berate him? Callin the Kettle black a bit don't you think? I know Derek he's a friend of mine on and off the tables. And ya a hot head who runs his mouth a lot.he's also a good guy! But just like the guy he was berating over the 64o call, somehow everyone has made it ok to Berate Derek here... either both are right or neither are...

    I think they were saying that your buttbuddy is a douche bag and tool bag at the poker table. Nothing about his life outside of poker. However, in my experience as a uberfish, people who defend people who berate fish in live games, are, in fact, douche bags and tool bags in their lives away from poker.

    Man...I don't know Derek8, but judging by his actions at the tables, 1st impression I'd get is "what a tool".

    If you're a good player, a known player, whatever....you do have an image to uphold, whether you like it or not. If you don't care about that, then that's fine, but you're pretty much giving out the vibe that every single professional player is a snooty tool if you act that way. You can think it all you want, just don't say it. Now if the fish starts acting up and talking trash, then you can put him in his place. This is about the only time I can think of to berate a fish. Ie: "Yeah...very well played to catch that 2-outer on me...well played sir...well played." This isn't berating the player, and it's getting your frustration voiced at the same time where maybe a handful of players at the table know what you really mean...and the donk will be none the wiser.

    There is a reason it is called being a "professional"....best to act like one. GL @ the WSOP all.

    Ok Listen... you must be 12 so i will type slow so can un-der-stand m-e ...You cant say someone is being a tool then turn around and on a bigger stage do the say thing without being one yourself... Pretty simple really, Berating some at the table or here is the same thing.. so just keep it real!
