So I'v been trying to work my way up the SNG ladder for quite some time now.
For the second time now (the first was on doyles room, before they shut out the US) I've ground my way up to $300+ stepped up to the next level then been completely mowed down.
In this most recent time I moved to stars wtih about $100, played about 160 $6 turbos and was up to $330, roughly 20% ROI, I was mentaly prepared to take even a halving of that ROI at the $16 turbo, but instead I got -15% and burned through half of my roll in about 40 games.
Back down to th $6 game.
Inevitebly I'll be back up to $300+ (I'd guess middle of june).
Is the $16 turbo where you start running into really serious opponents? I just can't seem to grasp how I can go from profitable to total donk in just the next bigger buyin sit-n-go. -
Why not try the $12 when you get back up.

There's just too many freaking training sites out there. Everyone plays super tight early...then we go to 100/200 with 8 people and it's a simple RNG pushfest. GG sng ROI. This is at 27-55 level. There was a thread about this phenomenon earlier and I totally agree.
There has to be a paradigm shift...More aggressive play early to pick up pots from the table o' tightys. It's just impossible to eke out a reliable profit when you are at 10xBB, 3rd or 4th place and there's still 7 or 8 players. In a blink you are 5/5 players and push or shoving at 200/400. -
Your problem is that you are according too much importance to your ROIs , without having the necessary sample size. 160 SNGs is not enough to say that you have a 20%+ ROI .. you need a sample of about 1000+ games to be able to have a IDEA of what your ROI truly is ...
I was in your shoes last summer, grinding out a 20% ROI in the 6.50s , then I moved up to the 16s and had -5% over 100 games. Although I felt like i was running bad, I moved back down to the 6,50s and promised myself to study ICM b4 moving back up to the 16s.
What I have found to be a good middle ground is the 12$45 mans, they are not as tough as the 16s, and the payouts are very nice! Once u get your roll back to the 250$ish level try a few of these.
Also, what kind of method are you using to keep track of your SNGs? -
$300 is not nearly enough to play the $16's without the risk of going broke.

well, I've dropped back down, and if need be I'll drop down again and again if I need to play $1 games.
Fox's BR guide says 20x the buy in is a sufficient roll for a level if you are willing to risk dropping down. -
I don't have percise number from my play on doyles room or full tilt. But I've easily played 600+ games at ~5 level, and I've really only taken lumps to my bankroll playing in bigger games.
I'm using poker tracker, and I have it installed both at work and home (since I usually rattle of 3 or 4 games during my lunch hour (It's a loose no pressure lunch hour)). Since my poker stars career is pretty short, I like checking that for my results as well. -
I have been 8 tabling $16 turbos for the last week and have been averaging a 18% roi. I usually play mtt but have been trying new things trying to make more profit so tried sng turbos. I find that playing lag early helps build enough of a stack to lose a coin flip later to a smaller stack and still survive the money. You hav to be willing to push with flush draws, open ended str8 draws and anytime your opponet is not strong. Again if everyone is playing tight early they will fold top pair with weak kickers. Have fun and be agressive.
