  1. During class I received the following email regarding a check for $2500 I deposited via ATM a few days ago. I have never had any problems with this bank, and have always deposited with the ATM. At this point I'm thinking my best course of action is responding with an email stating I did some online consulting work. Does anyone have any insight or advice? PNC historically has been the easiest with deposits; does this indicate a change for the worse? Thanks for any input.

    Hi -----,

I am just checking in to make sure the deposit you made to the ATM on
Wednesday was a legitimate check. The reason I ask is the company the
check came from is in * ------. All of these do not match up.
I do not want you to use these funds if this is a fraudulent check. If you
use these funds and this comes back as a bad check you will be out the
money that you've used. I know the money shows available, but it's not
fully collected from the other bank. I am just looking out for you.

Please call me back so we can discuss this check. I can be reached at the
number below or please respond to my email. Thank you.

  2. Semi standard bank procedure with the new fad of counterfeiting checks. If you don't reply it will be fine, if you do reply, I would just say I know the company and its history so the check will clear with no problems. The email is to let you know that this situation resembles the newest check fraud scams.
  3. yup same for me, lets pray this holds.
  4. I would say:

Thank you for informing me of the situation. The check is not fraudulent, but I will be cautious with the funds in case it does come back as a fraudulent check.

There is no way I would be calling them.
  5. Responded via email that I trust the source and the check will clear. Will post any updates.

  6. That's a very friendly, non-formal tone to that business email. Obv call back and get Amy's personal phone number...
  7. Here is her response:

"That's great, I just tried to verify the funds with HSBC and they weren't really able to do so. There has been an extended hold put on the check. It will take several extra days to clear and they've sent a letter to your address in ----. Thanks for getting back to me. "

  8. Just wait the 10 days until it clears? Everytime I've deposited poker checks I let them sit there for 10 days, and most the time the bank requires it.
  9. I use National City/PNC also. Just tell them you know the check is legit but just wait until it actually clears before using those funds. Most banks put a hold on a check until it clears but NC/PNC doesn't do that for some reason. Mine always show up available the next day but I transfer it to my savings until it clears. I would email that nice lady back and ask her to notify you once it clears and then use the funds.
  10. wow. your bank has great customer service. a "client" hit me with a bad check and my bank did nothing like this. it just reversed everything back to me. what's the name of your banking institution? i may want to switch!
  11. WOW.. Seems really cool of her to write this email!!! thank her.... then tell her you do some online consulting, and that the check is good. Tell her to inform you when all the funds are clear..

Just a passing thought here ...

If that note seems like it was written by a 2 year old, how old does the average poster here seem to you?
