pokerstars Tournament #85793967, No Limit Hold'em

1608 players
Total Prize Pool: $8040.00
Tournament started - 2008/04/24 - 21:00:00 (ET)
Dear MadProfesor,
You finished the tournament in 21st place.
A $24.13 award has been credited to your Real Money account. -
youre totally right! they should be paying out first place money for 21st place!
-
lil tip, dont register if u dont like the payout structure.
-
you would be singing a different tune if you won or at least reached HU. maybe MTT is not for you?
-
It's awful - my pet peeve with stars for some time now. Winners get far less than they used to but they pay more out to 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc than they used to. And of course they are paying out to more of the field now.
If you check the Stars 7.00pm $100 which usually has 4-500 entries and the Tilt 7.00pm $69 which generally has the same amount of runners, the actual difference in 1st prize money now is very small despite the roughly 30% higher cost of entry into the Stars tourney.
I guess Stars decided to redistribute more money to lower places to ensure fewer of their accounts bust out. -
True that what punter says. FT pays top 10% of field which I much prefer. Guess it depends if ya a person that doesn't care bout making the money but wanna make some real money. So if ya a scraper then stars MTTS are 4 u. If ya wanna win its all about Full Tilt!

Clearly these large field tournaments are not for you. If you are playing tournaments with 1,000 + you have to get used to these results. Talk to the people who play 3 rebuys...sometimes grind for 7+ hours only to make a few dollars.
If you have the bankroll I would go for some $20 180's. You don't have to navigate such a large field and if you happen to go out 10-18th you only put in a couple hours instead of 5+ -
Sure, take one of the nice things about online poker (that you can play a $10 game), and ruin it by making it winner take all. Many people just starting out, cashing is a big thing, even if it is only a couple of bucks.

Didnt we just go over this in a differant post. They payout more because that way more donks luck box there way in the money. In turn it makes the donks think they chance at first prize because they remember that one time (1in25tourneys) they finished ITM. Which in turn brings them back to donate. The best thing about mtt is on the 1-55dollar level at least 80% have not a clue how to play. Once in a while some of the bad players luckbox there way to the win. More times than not they dont. Now make it 10% structure on stars that means the donks will have to play tons of hands through the biggest mtts online. There not gonna cash much. Which in turn will make them say more than they do now "stars is rigged I always take bad beats". They will now stick to the 180s and sit n gos where theres less people and they can easily luck box to first cause they dont have to navigate the huge feilds. 10% great for the good players but also not great for all the donks that double us up early.

You played in a mtt with a 20% payout structure. If you don't like that structure don't play in $5 and less mtts that have it. stars has a 10% or 15% payout structure for all mtts $8 and up and a few lower buyins. Look at the lobby and see if it says 20% payout before you play and start bitchin.
Edit: And yes the 20% payout structure sucks for every single person that cashes. -
I bet if u had gotten 18th you would have gotten around 40. Play smart.
-
You can make an argument on this a couple of ways. On the one hand, you have the 20% payout schedule. I agree that this is largely for the donks that have a chance to luckbox and cash, thus, returning to try again and again. This keeps the "donks" happy. On the other side, you have people that know how to play and know how to play well that would much rather play in a structure that only pays out 10%.
Your problem is not a question of how many people get paid out, but how much. What is common is the final 2 tables (usually 18th and up) make the majority of the money. The FT especially, take a large chunk out and end up with a relatively decent payout.
By comparison, I finished 65th in a 2000+ player $1.10 tourney and only got $3.84, but finished 4th in another and got paid out $105.78. A 61 player difference and a $102.00 difference.
Your situation can be looked at 2 ways. 1. You only got paid out $24 for your time. 2. You got a 339% ROI from this tourney.
The only suggestion I have is....if you don't like the structure, don't play in it...if you want to get paid out better, finish higher....and if you want to have a chance to get paid out better for your time, start playing multi-table SNG's or higher limit games.
