  1. i was just looking it over because im thinking of 10 tableing 6.50 9 mans on stars and the rake per 200 games is 100$ but if i ran at 8% i would only profit 104$? is my math off or is there something im not calculateing in etc... thanks in advance
  2. grinding sngs w/o rakeback is like wiping your ass w/ money then setting it on fire
  3. okay then does anyone have any ideas of what to grind with a 700$ roll for a decently steady profit

  4. You did math correct, sngs are very profitable they take under an hr to win.

Once you get to $12 sngs and can increase 10 to 12-16 tbls at a time the bank starts to increase.

It def a grind but after couple months and a couple thousand games $$ should br rolling.

I prefer hu sngs which are frustating as shit when on a downswing but it keeps you thinking.
    1. im just confused when the tables go up the rake doesnt change so doesnt make it more profitable so is grinding them on stars pointless cuz of no rakeback?

  5. U could easily make a thousand dollars a week if you could put in 8 hrs a day playing 45 mans 12+ tables that is.
  6. 6.50s on stars are very soft, and the FPPs are like rakeback if you use them right.

    PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  8. Phi, as supernova, my FPP benefits as a percentage of rake paid is similar to rakeback.

Yes, its definitely possible to "beat the rake" in SNG's on pokerstars. ROI s/b similar to FTP, IMO.

  9. sngs are so easy it's ridiculous and most of the guys playing the $100s+ on stars are horrible. If you study sngs for a couple months there is no reason any halfway intelligent player couldn't beat the 114 turbos on stars

I don't know about that. It would be very difficult for someone playing 6.50s to make the jump all the way to 114 in a couple of months.

I've played the 16, 27, 38 and 60 turbos and I've seen one or two bad players on just about every table. The play does seem to be better once you hit 60 though.
The problem is, it's not enough to have bad players at your table. You have to get dealt some good cards so you can play a pot with them and then you have to still have the best hand at showdown. So, you do need to get lucky to knock one of these guys out and double up. It won't happen that often.

Most of the time, you're just going to go into level 3 (25/50) with about your original starting stack.
It's not so easy to win SNGs that way.

Your edge in regular SNGs can potentially be a lot bigger. However, the rake will be higher and they'll take longer.

I just don't think the edge is that big in these tourneys and you'd have to be really good to consistently beat the 114s on stars, maybe other sites are different.
  11. OP:

If you have to ask this question, then the answer is, "not for you."
  12. Beating low limit sng's = easy

Beating high limit sng's 55, 110 and above = not so easy.

Competition has gotten much tougher at the higher limits..everyone understands the general concepts and it comes down to riding out your small edges longterm. If you are willing to put in 1,000 games a month at the high limits after training for months on all the concepts, then you can squeak out a profit..but imo, only a few players are routinely beating those games on a month to month basis..

I mean look at it this way...I rate players by color with red being a sng expert...one year ago..i would have one other red player at the table..nowadays, i usually have at least 3-4 including myself and you are only playing for 3 payout spots..

So..based on that..can you play low limit sng's to build a bankroll? sure.

Can you make a living playing high limit sng's or jump from small ones to big ones in just a small period of time..doubtful.

  13. The answer to your original question is very simple; any form of poker can be profitable with some planning, discpline, and work.
