  1. Any idea why this is not offered online in cash games, and are there any sites that either do allow this or are thinking about it? For as often as it happens in live play, it seems like on the major sites it would be offered...

  2. and how 'bout chopping (preflop) and checking 'dark'. . . .
  3. I dont play cash games, and the first I heard of straddling was in the PAD episode w/ the guys from Card Runners. What is a straddle? and yeah flame flame, but I don't play cash games...

  4. A straddle is a blind bet made from under the gun, which is 2x the big blind, and is announced before the cards are dealt. If there is a straddle, the person who straddled gets last option and closes the action by either checking, calling, or raising. In an unstraddled hand, the big blind gets last option obviously.

  5. oh ok, so its like there is three blinds pretty much?

  6. Is it not basically a blind min raise UTG? Given most poker player's desire NOT to pay a blind, it seems peverse to me that anyone other than a degenerate gambler would want to straddle. Or am I missing something?

  7. does it only give you last to act pre flop?

  8. I've always thought of the straddle as a 3rd blind.
  9. haha yeah, thats what I just was thinking, its exactly what it is

Yes. Straddles are good for your image but I wouldn't recommend ever straddling unless you are comfortable playing flops and defending your blinds/straddle.

It creates action in a cash game by adding additional forced money to every pot. Allowing people to open lighter, thus making ranges wider overall for all players and causing ppl to play more aggressively.

  12. If a Mississippi straddle (button straddle) is allowed, you should do it every time. The Rio is the only place I can think of which allows this.

Tunica perhaps? And yes, always straddle the button if you can and I believe you should only straddle UTG if the whole table agrees to do it.

  14. I don't know if they still allow it but a year or two ago I was at the Horseshoe (Caesars then) in southern Indiana and they were allowing no cap Mississippi straddle at 1/2.

  15. Straddles are good for when the table is playing very tight. As mentioned above, it will open up the game a bit. A few straddles in a row and the table tends to loosen.

I never understood why anyone would volunteer to raise preflop until I was in Vegas this weekend and playing with a bunch of tight people. I finally straddled, got the pot up. Next person did also after the won that hand, and from then on the pots were actually worth something.
