  1. not high yet. just gonna babble a bit in this post and see what types of responses or advice might come. even a big fuck you retard might help.

bottomline, i'm grinding pretty hard at the moment. volume is key for sure so if you want to make it in this game its key when you are setting goals for yourself profit wise. but the more and more I am playing the more and more I'm realizing just how tricky this game is. just how much this game can fuck with your mind. the ups aren't that good, the downs aren't as bad but its really a rollercoaster ride. i've worked on taking my emotions out of the game. i'm working on finding just the right spots and I think why most people will never make it at this game is they get to a certain point and that is it. they will never get any better.

now some of these people never had much success. some i imagine hit big scores and are comforatble sitting around losing slowly under the delusion they are a good player. but how do you guys who have succeeded (whether professionally or as a serious hobby) keep pushing through those walls.

in about nine months of playing I set certain goals. I achieved them. I went from being a losing player to finally being a winning player. i took down a MTT. but I want to win more, win more often, and win more money.

i am adament about bankroll mangement, and won't really ever dip outside my roll. i got the the point where poker money was flowing into life money and right now redepositing is a long way off and really not an option.

Im getting to a point where I realize I need to take another step to get to my new goals. I need to get away from getting mad when my AK loses to AJ or my AA loses to JJ, or i don't win a flip in a big spot. No matter how good you are when you get it in bad beats are so much a part of this game and I'm fine with that. now I see to really get past these bad beats not only do I need volume but I need to be able to chip up in places I never knew existed before. am i'm trying my hardest and sometimes I look like such a dumbass at the tables.

i don't know what that was all about above.

cliff notes : for those who have continually grown in this game and succeeded how do you keep pushing your game to the next level?
  2. Ive thought about some of the same things as you. For me, I'd set a goal to get up to higher stakes as quickly as possible, grinding whatever was available, then challenge myself to play this game at a higher level (mindwise and buy in wise), instead of just grinding money. It sucks just grinding "money," meaning playing everything just to get a dollar. So set a goal, to just get better everyday. Then set a goal to be able to control tilt to a decent level. That's prolly the biggest besides BR mangt. All volume is for is grinding a bunch of small shit that you don't have to really focus on. If you want to be a really solid player, once you reach a certain level, u need to cut down on tables....so to some extent, I think volume is overrated. I seem to have the worst months when I grind too many tables that month, even if I play moderately low stakes. Sorry for the ramble, just threw out some thoughts.
  3. I think the biggest problem for most players is not having a drive to get better. I've been playing recreationally for about 3 years and really had no desire to acheive more. Of course I had dreams of crushing but never the drive to actually grow in the game. I finally started taking the game seriously about two months ago and it has paid off. I went from slightly winning to consistanly winning. I still have a ton of issues to work out in my game and really don't consider myself to be good yet. That said, taking emotions out of the game is tough. It can be very frustrating to play a tournament for six hours and then run kings into aces on the FT bubble. I did that twice last week... My point is that as long as you have a drive to get better, you can reach your full potential by working hard. The only way you will realize your full potential is by giving it 110% every session which most players don't including myself. Address your leaks then work on them. That's where I'm at and its a long road to becoming successful. GL in your future endeavors.

Cliffs- Give 110%. Work on your leaks. Maintain the drive and will to get better.

  4. Is all the work required to become a top player really worth it?
  5. mistook this as "stream of commerce" and thought I was about to get a lesson on Constitutional Law or Civil Procedure.........damn it.

If you like money it is...

  7. fwiw i think setting any type of goal in poker is pretty awful unless it is to effectively manage your bankroll and to play your best each session.

having any goal that is money related or has to do with moving up stakes is a recipe for putting too much pressure on yourself and ending up in a dangerous mental state such as anxiety, depression, anger, etc that you could have avoided in the first place

This. I've made this stupid mistake and now I am busto and without a backer.

Also, you have to be a certain level of sick in the head to be at the top in this game. Everyone successful I have met after playing with them online has some sort of fucked up life or personality trait.
