So I play often online, I play so much that I don't have any money left.....I can't seem to keep a good structure on the table and with my bankroll. I often build my bankroll up to 1k or more, but find myself donking it away again. Someone please help me with a new strategy that I can build my bankroll and not donk it away. As much as I lose, when im not tilting I play good...PLEASE HELP

You need to practice much better bankroll management. I checked your OPR, you're playing $10-$30 rebuys, $50 freezeouts galore, on a $1000 bankroll?
You should be playing $5-$10 freezouts, and maybe the $3 rebuys (and even that's pushing it).
The best players in the world will go broke if they don't know how to manage their bankroll, and average players can be slightly profitable if they adhere to strict bankroll management.
And you may have a gambling problem. -
dude you need to check you action ego at the door.......brm is more than just playing at proper stakes you need to manage your control issues as well....drop down in stakes and adjust your style.......play the game dont gamble for thrill......wanna piss your rolll away just head to a titty bar...get some enjoyment outta it!!!

I think it may be a little unfair to classify you has having a problem, your the only won that really knows this, as long as you can afford to lose this money and take care of your life, family, etc. The advise these guys have given is right on, a lot of us get caught up in wanting to play higher stakes to be associated with "better players" it serves the ego, etc, but if your true goal is to make a life out of this and build wealth, live on the $3 rebuys and tourneys at this level. You'll get to play for a long time and your skill set will surface with the amount of volume you'll be able to play in terms of cashing or winning the tourney outright. However if you honestly feel you have a problem, get help before you go deeper, good luck to you.

Honest advice: If you really have to ask this, quit poker. You either have a gambling problem or don't understand that putting a large percentage of your bankroll on the line is a bankroll killer. On top of that, you play when you are on tilt, more than occasionally. Your chances of turning this around are slim. Don't feel bad, as poker is not something that a great majority of the public can do.
You probably won't quit, so here's my next best advice.
1. Never deposit again. Ever. For any reason. If you are broke, win your first dollar.
2. Follow this to the letter of the law: Basic Bankroll Management, by Fox
3. Play only in games where you have had a prolonged record of success, until you are clearly ready to move up. When you are ready to move up, do so on weekends only at first, because the games are softer.
4. Have a cashout plan in place.
5. If you ever, for any reason, play outside of your bankroll, immediately self-exclude.
Good luck. -
What does afford it have anything to do with him having a gambling problem? He can still have a gambling problem even tho he has enough money and that 1k doesnt mean a whole lot to him...

Anyway i think the answer is follow normal bankroll management rules and don't play over your limit. -
This might be the best advice that I have yet.....thank you and I will be practicing these steps
-
keep putting in bad and try to suck your way 100k.....i mean you have outs......ALL IT TAKES IS ONE TIME AND BANKROLL MANAGEMENT WILLL NEVER BE A FACTOR AGAIN
-
I put myself on this plan after my Bodog debacle. I'm playin on free $ based on some promo at some other site on UB. $1 SNG's galore. Sucks cuz I know my skill level is best suited at the $10-$20 range.... but I'll never deposit again, build up and x-fer to other sites...

FOLLOW THIS ADVICE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. -
It's all about your mindset. When I play out of my bankroll, which is very rare, I get a sick feeling in my stomach. A feeling similar to when I sit down to play blackjack (approx once a year). Poker is no fun for me when I get that feeling. Some people play to get that feeling, they're called thrill seekers, problem gamblers, or, no offense, losers. Some people simply can't gamble to win. They think they do but they just gamble for the excitement. I like to feel relaxed when I play, otherwise it's no fun for me. I've made deposits in the last few years when I needed money on different sites for example, but I haven't gone busto online in at least four years or so. It's not that hard!

no offense jennifear, but i think your views are WAY off........1) who are you to tell people what to do.........2) ive read your posts and advice and you dont seem to be that intelligent about poker IMHO.......you probably think youre awesome tho

jennifear is the shit, and a MAJOR contributor on P5's -
keithfolds instead of hating why dont you give reasons why you think her advice is wrong? Give some advice yourself as to what to do and give some reasons.. And no Im not one of Jenn's students. Just a friend from here.
-
i think her advice is wrong because its not helpful to tell someone to quit if they dont want to quit to begin with.....mrman asked for help as far becoming a better player.....and i understand that we all think BR management is a key aspect......but if he wants to become better at poker(and not quit altogether), he might have to make a deposit here and there.....freeroll poker is not real poker and it basically ends his chances of moving up in bankroll and skill......and you might think she is a very important contributor, but i think her advice is way off on this one....we should help him improve his game instead of telling him to quit, get help, etc......
ps- i also say this because i dont find most of her posts to be helpful FWIW -
LMAO, keith you are an idiot. And here's a rule that may help you: Listening to other, better players than you and taking the advice objectively and in an unbiased manner is a great way to get better. If your method isn't working, why not listen to someone else and give it a try? Any losing player with a pride issue will never become a winning player. It comes down to being able to accept that you are wrong and something has to change.
And I couldn't agree with Jenn more, very good post. -
she didnt give him any tips as far as how to play the game.......she gave him the usual "youre a degenerate, stop playing unless you lucksack 723,686 freerolls" response....i love how ignorant some people can be when they dont know other peoples situations....he doesnt need dumbasses like you telling him to quit because he has a gambling problem, he could talk the chairman of Harrahs if he needed that speech......in the end, he wants to be able to play poker and not lose his focus, all while making profitable plays.....instead he has people telling him to quit and pick up UNO or bridge
PS - It is better to look stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.....you should learn this Spew -
There is some of the worst advice in this thread. This gentleman is clearly a donator & should be encouraged.
-
Keith, I hope you're leveling with your responses. Everyone has contributed positively to this thread besides you. The OP def needs bankroll management before anything.......doesn't matter how good or bad he is. If he doesn't have good BRM he'll never be profitable.
-
my first post was a level, but mostly because mrman is my best friend....what other people dont know is that small amounts of money are nothing to him.....and he is a good player, maybe one of the best players in my circle of friends, which are pretty much all winning players in a live setting....he doesnt want to play $3, $5, or $10 tournies regularly because that kind of money means nothing.....if you think winning $68 for 7 hours of poker is profitable, then you should just get a part time, minimum wage job.....he wants GOOD players to give him some insight to being a better player, not how to cure a gambling problem, which im sure no one else in this thread has LMFAOWEAB

I've seen this in several of Jennifear's posts and I disagree.

People can manage their bankroll in many different ways. Especially given the climate of online poker the last couple of years, saying that leaving your entire bankroll on a site is the only way to go is silly at best.
If I have a bankroll of 3k, I can choose to only keep <1k online and the rest in a bank account or stuffed in my mattress if I want to. That is something that is relative based on your comfort level with where your money is.
A deposit can merely be a shift of some or all of a bankroll to a specific site or online period. -
Well he needs to start with a bigger bankroll then. If the money is no problem why hasn't he done this already? Also, i think his question was how to keep from losing his roll every time right? The most obvious and very first step in this equation is playing inside your BR. Can't handle the variance playing every 50r and 109 freezeout with a 1k bankroll. After he handles that then moving to advice on his game comes. Would be a waste to do it the other way.
