  1. Playing an SNG right now I get soooted J 7 and remember that it was one of the hands I'd always limp with during my first couple months playing. Now I just FOLD it (99% of the time).

So for those that make a living at this whacky game, what are the cards you gave up on. Or have you given up on any?
  2. I gave up on J4 off-suit. They call that hand "Full Employment" (Those who play J4 will always have a day job). For some reason, I thought there was "hidden value" in J4o, but after talking with Barry Greenstein on the Podcast, I now know that 32 off-suit is The Hand.

  3. Nice. Another one I got into trouble with has been KJ (called the rookie hand right?)

  4. Seriously, I was a serious donkey until I totally absorbed two important concepts--

    1. position, position, position

    2. ten times better to open a pot with a raise than it is to call a raise or even to reraise (in most cases)

Just about any hand is good enough to open a pot with a raise from cutoff or button. On the other hand, I now routinely fold hands like AQ, AJ, KQ from early position--assuming a full table. Things change late in a tournament when you're five or six-handed. I don't see the value in open limping although I know some players use it successfully. I'm not good enough for that.
