Villain hasn't been out of line at all.. I've seen him open with 88 once and AA flatted and he hit 8 and took pot.. that's it... leaning towards folding since I'm utg
I don't play these often at all but I was semi active but nothing that tossing a huge raise in here from his position
Help? Thanks in advance.

wtf would pxf say brah. enlighten us mother fucker
edit- this is a sick spot, I say fold. Is it bad to jam 20bbs pre here? -
I think its a tough spot. Don't know the math but i would guess youre like 40-50 percent vs his range. If you think you have a skill edge at the table i'd find a better spot, but that being said if you jam and win youre looking at a top three finish and thats where the money is. Hate these spots.
-
Villian is folding 99??
Villian is folding AQ??
His whole range is QQ+??
Seriously, please never fold here.... -
I do think I can handle the table here if I fold, and I raised from UTG and I don't think this guy is really capable of making that raise from his spot with worse than JJ.

I know Deoxyribo (what does your name mean deoxy?) has been called a nit on this forum in other threads and he says it's auto jam it in, but I just really am not sure. -
Please don't fold this... if you're going to raise fold jj with such short stacks, you set yourself up to get slapped around. Plus he's not folding anything and there's no way his range is just qq+ak.

I ended up getting 2nd in this thing
Did I call and suckout? []
Did I fold? [] -
To me this is a complete situational play, from the way you describe the villian I probably fold, which is what I think you did also.
-
You get 3 bet by a guy who basically made an overbet just to make it obvious hes going with his hand, not that tough/sick spot at all. I'm ranging him no tighter than AJ+ 88+ here; you act like his raise size=strength when it's really irelevant, you guys are <20 bbs deep and this a good spot to get it in.

I can't say if my play would be correct or not, but I can tell you what I'd do.
I would have open pushed JJ. If you run into a big hand, shit happens. You need to be building your stack and picking up pots. 4 people at your table have virtually nitted themselves into nothing and might call you with a wide range to make a stand, especially if you've been picking up a lot of pots (what you should be doing). So many people in these are just trying to make the final table, or to cash. You should be trying to win. Anything less than 3rd is no good in the long run. You want to be in 1st or 2nd when you get to the final table if you can, and preferably by a good margin.
If Bobmar7 calls you and you happen to win, look at the position you will be in. You'll have way more chips at your table than anybody else, and then can really turn it up and pick up pots and afford to gamble to knock out those short stacks and pick up even more pots. You're probably in 1st place in the whole tournament (something I would consider when making a decision). For me, it's not a "sick spot", it's pretty standard. -
6th grade wasn't 6 years ago for me like it was you....
I folded and am okay with it because I was able to outplay the table and take 2nd place... I just really felt the player wasn't doing this with worse seeing how he had been playing.
Because I only had 20 bbs to start the hand I know I should be happy to get this in but this a 180 man starting with 1500 chips where stacks aren't deep and if it were a non turbo mtt with 3k starting chips I'm obv glad to get it in. -
folding here is bad
-
meh, won the next one i played...

I think you have your structures confused. Since this is a shallow stacked tournament with a very fast structure, you should be thrilled to get it in with JJ in this spot, even against a massive nit. The only way you could even contemplate a fold button with less than 20 BB's is if this were a really slow structure, and even then I think you'd just be leveling yourself if you thought your edge over the rest of the field was that huge.

FWIW, I would open-shove the JJ here UTG. Weak players sense weakness from a play like that, and you could easily be called by AK/AQ or even 99-TT. Plus, open-shoving has the added benefit of not allowing you to make a mistake later in the hand, which unfortunately is what happened. Finishing 2nd (or 1st for that matter), is basically irrelevant. There's no reason to connect your end result with your play on this particular hand. Play each hand the absolute best you can, and the results will be what they will be. Use your windfall to make better decisions next time.
Cheers. -
obv level not to myself
