A few months ago I started to think about having a shot at playing this game for a living. I set myself a goal of 6 months living exenses + a 5k bankroll for SNG's. I did this so i could live comfortably and have a reasonable buffer to avoid me being able to go broke in 6 months. I am finally ready to take the plunge and will be resigning from my full time job tomorow.
I love the place where I work, but only for the ppl that are there and not for the tasks I perform. Neways dont any1 try and change my mind - after all I plan to go to university in 6 - 10 months and I plan to try and save up 6-12 months living expenses for while i am at uni next year.
I have thought it through and I think this decision will be a good one for me.
There will be a few rules tho.
1. no playing while drinking unless it is 1/10th of my avg. buyin
2. play with a working roll of 200 avg. buyins
3. set and meet volume targets - im thinking 50 a day for sng's 5 days a week
4. if i bust my bankroll I will work a part time job to build it back up while living from my 6 months expenses
5. no playing distracted ie. watching tv, browsing the internet
Over the last 6 months I have averaged roughly 800 AUD a week fairly consistantly with only a few weeks where I finished down. I am confident in my game and ready to see just how much I can ship.
I know this has been a been a bit of a ramble, but writing this down will help me remember and stick to this stuff.
Anyways not sure why any of you would care, but if youve read this far and you dont want to bitch slap me... thanks -
if you've been winning lately adding all these rules too it will put stress on ur play. just go out and do what u have been to get to where ur at now

gl sir....grind away

Good luck in this.

Good Luck to you. IF it was easy everyone would be doing it..
-
I don't tell many people that this is a good idea
You took the time to save up 6 mos expenses
Your plan is good
Your roll is a bit short to try this
but that said
being familiar with you and all
my money is saying youll make it -
the rule with no tv/ browsing internet is definitely +ev. when u can focus hardcore on your tables u will play much better. gl man. what sng's are u playing?
-
Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted on how you like it and how it works out. Maybe like a weekly thread or even start a blog. I do agree with Jennifear that the BR seems a little short, but if you can put in the time and are properly rolled for the games you play, it should be cake.......or pokerstars or FTP, depending! :)

GL man, I dream of the ability to do this one day, so I bestow large amounts of good karma your way.
Take them all down, sir. -
Best of Luck.
5. no playing distracted ie. watching tv, browsing the internet <-- This looks a little extreme, i know i cant play without doing these things.:( -
i think it would be easy to adopt for the simple fact.....you eat mac and cheese and ketchup soup or steak and potatoes on a nightly basis.
obv with the mac and cheese u could add weiners if you went on a heater.
gl with your endaevor. -
Treat it like its a job but ALWAYS having fun while doing it is important. Best of luck.

How many SNGs did you average per day when you were working full time and making avg 800 AUD?

GL.
I can't imagine how awful a job must be to make you want to quit and start grinding SNGs. -
best of luck, sir.

GLGL sounds like you have it all thought out.

dont suck

Here are my stats for the past 6 months or so.Without working a full time job I would definately expect myself to exceed 250 a week. This is just for SNG's on stars and if I threw in tourney results from stars and party figure would be more like 800-1000USD a week.

GL with this bro, I know you have the game to do this. While following those rules might help your ROI, remember that you are doing this because you will enjoy life more. I did this for four months before I went to law school, and it was a tremendous experience. I made some good money, but more importantly, I could sleep in until whenever, I had lots of time to hang out with friends, I didn't have a boss, I could go anywhere I wanted, etc.
If you love poker, then this will be an awesome experience. GLGL.
