Wow this tilts me so hard. I had been looking forward to playing the 1k at the hard rock in Tampa for a few weeks. I live about 3 hours away from Tampa so I figured I would play on the second starting day, that way if I bust I can leave and won't have to spend a day twiddling my thumbs if I did make it to day 2.
So I call the room today to ask a few questions about how many people they got for day 1 and they inform me that in order to play on the second starting day you had to purchase your ticket by 10:30 AM today (tournament started at 10 or 11, can't remember which). I never saw this mentioned online, and when I told the tournament director that his response was "well, it was on the flyer".
Every other live tournament I have played with multiple starting days has always allowed registration on any of the starting days and not just the day of the tournament. I was under the impression this was standard. Has anyone ever heard of this happening at other tournaments?
The thing that irritates me the most about this situation is that the TD told me "We've run this tournament three times, and every time we've used this policy, and every time we've received multiple complaints about it". So I said, well don't you think you should consider changing it then and his response was "Well our poker room manager wants it done this way".

wow a little googling confirms that 2001 Odyssey >>>> Tampa Hard Rock.
fuck that place, never ever going to play there ever. -
they told me the exact same thing today, i'm so pissed. i called like 2+ weeks ago to reserve my seat for day 1b (saturday). i was about to leave, but i decided to call the HR to make sure my seat was reserved. the stupid guy says that i had to buy my ticket by friday @ 10:30 AM. god dude, so tilting

i just busted JJ vs AK, k on river to finish 18th on day 1 out of 139 when 13 make day 2....fun 14 hour day!....yeah yeah bad beat story but 14 hours vs some horrid play and needing to win 1 race in order to get a great stack going into day 2 = Blah.
I think its stupid that they stopped selling tickets at 1030 on day 1 when they were far short of their cap for the field - they need to learn how to run a real tourney. The start of the day began with them bringing together 2 half tables and just telling everyone to choose a seat and watching the 2 toughest players jockey for position and both land directly on my left - seems fair and random well done hard rock staff.
also the cash games are ridic easy there and there is a crap load of money to be made at 2-5, and 5-10 even with a 100 max original buyin. -
Really? The incompetence of these people is astounding. They offer a 1k tournament which is a pretty big buy in for a Florida tournament and they run it like absolute dogshit. I'm kind of glad I didn't play, although I'm still aggravated about the entire thing.

What did you think of the structure? And what's your guestimation of donks to competent players?
