  1. long story short, password obtained by peer on stars, money transferred to his account, most likely in process of being cashed out but definitely couldnt have received any checks yet.

Stars will almost always correct this problem even if the balance is not in his cashier right?

edit: for those of you wondering, yes he will for sure be getting curb stomped.

  2. How did he obtain your PW? Did you trust the wrong person? Or did someone get you with a key logger? That sucks I hope he didnt have an epassport or its GG money.
  3. This has happened to me in the past and they generally cannot actually retrieve your money however you can get him banhammered which provides some satisfaction.... curb-stomping is unneccesary karma is a biznizzle

  4. Based on the timing of the transfers I know for sure that the money could not have been cashed through a bank so in theory pokerstars should still be able to recover it right?

I am a supernova and put in at least 80 hours a week into mid-high stakes. I really can't see them not returning the money to me.

    Thoughts?

  5. id be working on emailing stars letting them know so tehy can do w/e in their power to freeze funds etc.

i wouldnt curbstomp just make unknown persons life a living hell like slashing tires etc. assuming u werefriends with them

pretty dillusional to think stars is gonna give u the $ back tho....this would just be another route for scammers to try to make bank

    who stole the $?

  6. I def would curb stomp.
  7. wow this whole situation is pretty low... is this guy your friend?

and if he is... he may have some closet addiction or something that would drive him to do this.
  8. Password heist by a peer. Your problem not stars.
  9. He is a very low limit low volume mostly losing player (i'd assume this by the frequency at which he would approach myself and friends to exchange his cash for online funds).

The amount in question is over $6k which likely is more than hes ever had at one time and more than enough for the stakes hes played. Hopefully stars takes these things into consideration ;/

  10. Yeah stars isnt going to do much. Its your problem not theirs. Some how this guy got your PW i guess.

    -Jim
  11. how did he get your password?
  12. Sorry about your loss but the site can't do anything about it, from their eyes the transactions are the same as if it was your buddy and you sent him $6k and he decided to cashout - nothing they can do, because they can't be sure your not the scammer.

  13. why you being evasive about HOW HE GOT THE PASSWORD?

if you GAVE him your password and he took money, i cannot how see how stars WOULD (OR SHOULD) give you the money back

they make it VERY clear not to give out your password to ANYONE for SPECIFICALLY this reason

besides dealing with zillions of real security issues, now they should be compelled to worry about people's friends stealing money from them after being given their password?

sorry you got fd, but no shot stars should be responsible

  14. i disagree that there is nothing the site can do... as he stated he is a supernova player and stars support is always vvv helpful.

  15. The always helpful and informative innissnt. Arent you a 40 year old pothead arguing with kids online?

I don't know how my password was acquired. It likely just wasnt strong enough. I guess I never saw this coming.

  16. COULD they do somethin? OBVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

but why SHOULD they? like someone said, how are they supposed to know what really happened? for all they know, OP lost a bet and told his buddy to take the money from his account, and now rethinks his situation and says f that...or OP told his buddy he would send him stars money for cash and the guy gave him the cash and now HE is trying to scam

do not misunderstand plz...obv i SERIOUSLY DOUBT OP did anything wrong at all and it SUCKS that this happened...just saying it is not stars' responsiblity to get involved in these things

i hope he gets the money back

  17. no1 is debating how helpful stars is with regards to their players...but to believe theyre gonna give back the $ stolen bc ur password wasnt strong enough or w/e is pretty naive

gl man hopefully youve alrady filled stars in with everything detail wise, not to sound childish or anything but if its a kid and u somehow know him, its not too hard to find his address and address the subject with his rents altho that just sounds weird saying its what im bout to do with a kid who i used to be REALLY good friends with and hes just blown me off for 600....not even about the $ to me altho 6k it would be....

    its about the fuckin principle

  18. Isnt this the same as being hacked?
I thought people got funds back from most hackings?
Why is everyone acting like its the OPs fault he had a friend that fvcked him so lets all flame him!
  19. Funds frozen, for some reason I have to fax them a copy of my drivers license and they will redeposit the funds into my account. +1 for pokerstars securtity department.

  20. stupid comment. of course they should do something. he says he never gave the guy the password. so if someone figures out your password inissint and is in the process of withdrawing money, stars shouldnt get involved????
  21. Glad you got your money back. But for some reason? you would have to fax your ID's. Why do you think they would have you do that? WTF - Your friend obviously has a problem.
  22. A hacker logs into your account from an IP not associated with the account. If there is no previous association with the new IP then the site can try to freeze that account until an explanation can be made. If there is a past association between the accounts and you dispute the transaction it's your word against that of the thief. This would be further obscured if the thief had been given access to your account previously from his IP.

Bottom line is that you are responsible for the protection of your password. I think there may be more to this little drama than has been given us so far. The sites do not give people back funds stolen via hackings. If they have evidence of hacking the best they can do is freeze those funds that have yet to be laundered.

A good example would be if I were to finish a tourney for a friend because something came up. I would have his password and could transfer all his monies to my account or dump them my partner in crime. If he complained to the site and said I was a thief, all I would have to say is no I'm not. Tough love here folks. Protect those passwords.

    Getting popcorn now.
